Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club A Grade are in a strong position in their first two-day clash for season 2022/2023.

Facing the Ovens Valley United team at Stan Hargreaves Oval in Yarrawonga; the home team posted 197 on day 1 of the clash.

The YMCC total was built around the standout innings of 49 from Brock McCabe and 41 from Harry Wheeler.

A pleasing aspect for Coach Reid Clarke was that 6 players made double figures; Zac Fraser made 17, Angus McMillan 14, and Corey McIntosh and Jacob Bartlett 10 each.

However only McCabe and Wheeler pushed on to big scores.

Clarke and Fraser shared in a 30-run opening partnership, and McIntosh and Wheeler combined for 51 runs.

Brothers Brock and Matt McCabe combined for 43 runs in an eight-wicket partnership.

Adding to the YMCC total was 23 extras conceded by Ovens Valley in their bowling innings.

With 6 overs left in the days play, Yarrawonga Mulwala took to the bowling crease and were able to claim an early wicket of Jones and see the score at 1 for 14 at the end of play.

With 183 runs needed for victory, Ovens Valley will bat into day two, while the YMCC strive for 9 more wicket to secure a valuable win.
