Almost 100 riders from 14 cycling clubs competed in the second annual Ian (Woofa) Davis Memorial Race in Yarrawonga and district last weekend.

Hosted by Albury Wodonga Cycling Club on behalf of the family, the 74km handicap road race which included two laps the Hammons Rd-Wilby loop on Saturday was won by Latrobe City Cycling Club’s Josh Stevens of the scratch group in a time of 2:03:44.
The Woofa Davis Memorial Race over Saturday and Sunday was well attended with some great results recorded.

First female was Kim Summers from Albury Wodonga Cycling Club from Limit group.
Other results of the Lake Mulwala Bakery 2nd annual Ian (Woofa) Davis Memorial Cycling Festival were:
1st under 17 rider was placed 2nd overall, Jack Edwards from Shepparton Cycling Club from the Scratch group - a strong ride from the youngster.
Winning female cyclist in the handicap race was Kim Summers.
3rd overall was Matthew Carmellotti from Cobram-Barooga club, who rode from the middle bunch of the 5 start groups
1st under 15 rider was placed 4th overall, Lachlan Stewart from Alpine Cycling Club who also raced from the Scratch bunch, a very talented and promising young rider to start and finish with a solid scratch bunch
1st under 19 rider and 8th place (and 1st Albury Wodonga club rider) was Archie Davis from the scratch bunch. Woofa was Archie’s grandfather.

Under 9 time trial winner to start the day was Thea Davis (Woofa’s granddaughter) with a time 7:10:32 for 3 laps, a great effort! An Albury Wodonga Cycling Club member.

Woofa’s widow Glenys and daughter Kellie assisted with presentations both Saturday evening and Sunday after the criteriums.
The 14 participating clubs were Alpine (Bright), Seymour-Broadford, Shepparton, Echuca-Moama, Cobram-Barooga, Latrobe City, Carnegie-Caulfield, Wangaratta, Geelong & Surf Coast, Hawthorn, Wagga, Griffith and also the Australian Defence Force, and of course Albury Wodonga Cycling Club (who ran the event) including members of the Yarrawonga Mulwala community.
Special guest speaker on Saturday evening, at ClubMulwala, was Brett Lancaster OAM who spoke about his Olympic journey.
He brought his Gold medal, which the audience got to hold, and Brett’s talk relating to his professional road career was most interesting.
Members of the Davis family including Woofa’s widow Glenys and son Nick. The Davis family were winners over the two days of racing – Mitch Davis (C Grade), Archie Davis (A Grade U19), Nick Davis ( 2nd C Grade), Hannah Gibbons ( B Grade ), and Thea Davis ( Under 9).

Brett also took questions from the audience around the highs and lows of his career - training, accidents, family life and some of the differences between the countries and Australia,” organiser and secretary of Albury Wodonga Cycling Club Karen Mann said.
“His son Luca raced both days so there were plenty of opportunities to say hello.”
Woofa, 67, was a local legend of cycling before a heart attack claimed his life on November 19, 2017.
Together with Woofa’s son Nick (Pickles) the family was very happy to be at the well-run event and support it in memory of their husband and father.
The Albury Wodonga Cycling Club appreciated the support of everyone involved in making the big event such a success.
