Club Mulwala Bowls Report
Pennant
Round 1 began with breakfast at Diggers Restaurant at Club Mulwala, providing a perfect start to the season.
Last season’s premiership-winning side, now competing in A2s, played at home against Benalla and secured a win. The team featured a few new faces for Round 1, proving that the bowlers recruited during the off-season have plenty of talent and giving the selection committee quite a task.
The best rink on the day was skipped by Darki Day, with Wayne Dowsey at third, Greg Beaton at second and Darren Walters at lead. They won their rink by 21 shots.
Darren and Greg are both new players to Club Mulwala and performed very well in their debut games. Also making their debuts for Club Mulwala in the top side were Dylan Sidebottom and Michael Szabo.
The team travels to Wodonga this Saturday.
The B1s travelled to Myrtleford and unfortunately suffered a loss. Playing Myrtleford at home is always a big challenge, so it was good to get this game out of the way early in the season.
The club welcomed Bob Evans, who skipped for the B1 side. Bob brings great bowls knowledge to the club.
The team plays at home this Saturday against local rivals Tungamah.
The B2s travelled to Club Corowa and were very happy with their win against one of last season’s top sides.
The best rink on the day was skipped by Gary Atkinson, with Greg Bennett at third, Darren Liversidge at second and Colin Matheson at lead.
The team is at home this Saturday against Myrtleford.
The B5s played at home against local rivals Yarrawonga and secured a two-shot victory.
The best rink on the day was skipped by Daryl Richmond, with Betty Richmond at third, Lew Matthews at second and new recruit and the club’s youngest Pennant player, Chase Lefevre, at lead.
The club also welcomed new bowler Steve Pegg, who made his Pennant debut last Saturday as part of a winning side.
Wayne Jessup is another welcome addition to the club. He played in the B5 side last Saturday, helping the team secure its first win of the season.
The team travels to Wangaratta this Saturday and will be hoping to secure a second win.
This Tuesday, Club Mulwala had three teams competing in midweek Pennant. Last season’s premiers, now playing in A1s, hosted Wodonga. The A3s made the long journey to Dederang, while the B1s played at home against Corowa Civic.
Details of these matches will appear in next week’s edition.

Tungamah Bowls Club
Pennant Season Underway
The bowls season is up and away, with Pennant starting on Saturday.
A3s
Tungamah had its annual bus trip to Beechworth. It is always a tough match on their green, but to Tungamah’s credit, the team went down by just 12 shots, 84 to 72.
This was thanks to the rink skipped by Jack Costigan. It was Jack’s first time skipping at this level, and with the help of Gav Lawless, Phillip Pettit and Rob Browning, the rink secured an impressive 27–14 victory, earning Tungamah two points. Well done, Jack, on a great game.
The other three rinks were defeated.
Congratulations to Simon Crawford, a new player making his Pennant debut. Simon drove the bus and adapted to the conditions, and his efforts were greatly appreciated.
Next week, Tungamah is at home to early ladder leaders Chiltern.
B1s
Tungamah hosted St James in what is always a battle of the Boosey. St James defeated Tungamah by 61 shots to 55.
Well done to the rink skipped by David Haebich, which secured a 22–20 victory and earned four points for Tungamah.
This result is particularly noteworthy because Hudson Crawford, a new player, made his Pennant debut as lead. He is to be commended on his efforts against seasoned players. The club wishes him well as one of Tungamah’s young guns.
Next week, Tungamah travels to Club Mulwala for what is always a great match against this club.
100 Up Competition
The first round commenced on Thursday, 8 October, with only three matches played. The remaining matches will be played on Thursday, 15 October.
