Club Mulwala’s A1 side played at home against Wodonga. Unfortunately, the team lost by five shots despite winning two rinks. The team will head to Wangaratta for Round 2.
The club’s A3 side made the long journey to Dederang. Playing Dederang on their home green was always going to be a challenge, but it was a good away game to get out of the way early in the season. The greens were very different from the slick surfaces at Mulwala, and the team went down by 15 shots.
The side’s sole winning rink was skippered by Stan McIntoch, with Gary Atkinson at third, Daryl Richmond at second and Nicole McPherson leading. The team plays Rutherglen at home next Tuesday.
The B2s played Corowa Civic at home and narrowly lost, managing one rink win on the day. The winning rink was skippered by Wayne Hulm, with Darren Livesidge at third, Ray Tovey at second and Colin Matheson leading. The team travels to Benalla next week.

The B1s played Tungamah at home and were delighted to record their first win of the season.
Club Mulwala: 80 shots, 12 points. Tungamah: 56 shots, 2 points.

YMGCR Bowls – 18 October 2026
Thursday Social Bowls
A light roster of 20 players enjoyed fine, yet cool, conditions last Thursday, 15 October. It was a pity there weren’t more players on hand to enjoy the conditions on the east green, which ran well. The direction of play for the day was east to west.
First place went to Noel Smith and Doug McTier, who shared $50 each in cash and a drink card apiece. Noel and Doug played Barb Tennyson and Chris Morrissy on that rink again, rink 13, which, as mentioned last week, has become the go-to rink for anyone hoping to have their names drawn as the day’s winners.
Second prize went to Col Withers and Kevin Wallace, who played Ross Lloyd and Mick Reilly on rink 10. Col and Kevin each won $15.
The losing-rink consolation prize of $10 went to Barb Tennyson and Chris Morrissy, who played Noel Smith and Doug McTier on rink 13.
The first lucky number raffle prize of $10 was won by Norm Moule, while the second lucky number prize, also worth $10, went to Ross Lloyd.
Weekend Pennant
What a difference a week makes. After all weekend sides won last week, this time it was left to the B5s to wave the flag on behalf of YMGCR.
The A1s played host to top side Commercial Club, but it was a comprehensive away win for the Albury side. After 84 ends, Commercial Club finished with 84 shots and 16 points, while YMGCR managed 68 shots and 2 points.
Securing those two valuable points for YMGCR were Rhonda Irvine (lead), Caroline Reilly (second), Colin Withers (third) and Ian Brimblecombe (skip), who won their rink 26 shots to 14.
The A1s have now dropped to fourth place on the ladder and will entertain fifth-placed Myrtleford at the Golf Club this week.
The A3s undertook the long journey to Swanpool and, after the last bowl had been delivered, boarded the bus for the trip home following a loss to their hosts. Final scores were Swanpool 87 shots and 16 points, with YMGCR finishing on 76 shots and 2 points.
Gathering two valuable points for YMGCR were Ross Lloyd (lead), Bruce Davie (second), Mick Crawford (third) and Rob Hummel (skip), who bested Swanpool 21 shots to 18.
The A3s’ next task is a home game against sixth-placed Club Corowa.
The B1s hosted Benalla Moira at home last Saturday, but it was Moira who headed home with the win. Final scores saw Benalla Moira defeat YMGCR by 59 shots and 11 points to 53 shots and 3 points.
Noeleen Borg (lead), Karen Bianco (second), Bob Brokenshire (third) and Peter Lidgerwood (skip) banked two points with a rink win, downing Moira 22 shots to 18.
The B1s are now in sixth place on the ladder and will travel to eighth-placed Benalla next week for an important away game.
The B5s celebrated a home win against sixth-placed Rutherglen on Saturday. Final scores saw YMGCR defeat Rutherglen by 57 shots and 12 points to 50 shots and 2 points.
Winning in fine style were Doug McTier (lead), Michelle Thomas (second), Tom Kindred (third) and Joe Borg (skip), who won their rink 22 shots to 14.

Anchoring a great away win were Lynne Baxter (lead), Rhonda Irvine (second), Ray Brown (third) and Michael Vaughan (skip), who won their rink 25 shots to 13.
After the opening round, YMGCR sits in third place on the ladder and will host top side Club Corowa next week.
The A2s opened their campaign with an away game against Corowa Civic, but it was the home side that emerged victorious. Corowa Civic won by 69 shots and 12 points to YMGCR’s 51 shots and 2 points.
Putting in a meritorious performance for YMGCR were David Irvine (lead), Hayden Beca (second), Terry Cartwright (third) and Allan Goudge (skip), who won their rink 24 shots to 22.
