Yarrawonga Bowls Club
AGM
The Yarrawonga Bowls Club held the Annual General Meeting on Sunday, May 4.
Members gathered to reflect on a successful year both on and off the green.
President Robert Tait opened the meeting by acknowledging the dedication of club members, volunteers, and committee members who contributed to another great season.
Highlights included a Midweek Championship Flag, steady membership, and the continued upkeep and improvements to club facilities.
Treasurer Evelyn Calder reported a strong financial position.
The club maintained healthy reserves despite increasing operating costs.
Fundraising efforts and community support through events such as barefoot bowls, the Easter Tournament and Friday night happy hours, were once again a key contributor.
Robert Tait has decided to step down as president after a tough run with some health issues, and the club can’t thank him enough for his four year term, and work beyond that.
Taity provided a great blend of firmness, fairness, and experience.
The enormous amount of work he does around the club has always gone above and beyond his scope as president.
Club members look forward to seeing him around the club as a member and friend.
Yarrawonga Bowls hope those health issues get a chance to heal, a huge thank you.
Ian Woods has also stood down as he and wife Glenda are hoping to relocate to Port Fairy, to be with their family.
Ian “Woodsy” was one of the club’s most consistent and successful players.
He also was a very popular President, Board member and Chairman of selectors.
He helped behind the bar, maintained the greens and kept the clubrooms available with a smile and a laugh.
Glenda was a valued member of the club who helped the catering team, behind the bar, and at functions.
The club wishes the couple good luck on the move and hope’s to see you enjoy your time at the club till then.
The clubs little pocket rocket Kay Tait who served as the clubs catering manager for six years has also stepped down from the role to focus on family.
She has earned earning a well-deserved break from catering.
For those that know Kay, she is an absolute powerhouse of energy who never stops moving, she is the clubs little energiser bunny.
Thank you Kay for the calm and steady influence in the kitchen, and “just get it done” attitude.
Hopefully you will come to the club and just sit and rest for a change (not bloody likely though)
The club welcomes Brian Batty as the new President.
Brian has been a long-standing player, club and board member and Chairman of the Match Committee.
It’s often said he should leave a sleeping bag in the office with the amount of work he does in the background.
He brings a wealth experience and knowledge of club history and processes.
All his experience should see a smooth and seamless transition into the role.
A warm welcome and congratulations Brian – you have the club's full support.
Experienced A1 bowler Shane Maddox and relatively new bowler Jules Allen will join the board in the newly vacated positions.
It’s exciting to see new blood on the board, who are to provide fresh ideas and perspectives.
The club anticipates both new members and welcomes them wholeheartedly.
Elections were not required for committee positions with the following members successfully appointed:
• President: Brian Batty
• Vice President: to be decided at next meeting
• Secretary: Joe Borg
• Treasurer: Evelyn Calder
• General Committee Members: Raelene Faragher, Maurie Lee, Peter McKay, Shane Maddox, Jules Allan.
Brian closed the meeting by thanking outgoing committee members for their service and expressed excitement for the year ahead.
Plans are already underway for social events, inter-club competitions, and facility enhancements to further grow the club and community.
The Yarrawonga Bowls Club welcomes new members of all ages and abilities.
For those interested in giving bowls a try, social bowls sessions continue each week.

The last game of the season was at Benalla for Jack Edwards Day.
Tommy Dodds rink had a win, a loss and a draw while Keith’s rink had a win and two losses.
Everyone involved enjoy these days enormously and we thank all players for participating.
The club looks forward to another season later in the year.
Barefoot Bowls
Thursday night shenanigans have come to an end for this season.
The last night session happened on Thursday, May 1.
The night was played with good humour and meal, generously supplied by the club.
Barefoot bowls wish to thank Evelyn and Max Calder for the amount of work they put in to make this a successful event each year.
Max does an amazing job and it is an integral part of the clubs calender each year, Thanks Maxi.
To the club’s helpers who show up each week, thank you.
To all the bowlers who turn up week after week, thanks for your participation and fun attitude.
Join Barefoot Bowls on Friday nights for Happy Hour or become social or pennant players.
Thank you to Moira Shire for the funding that enabled us to install the efficient hand dryers in the bathrooms.
The support is appreciated, and the dryers will be particularly welcome in the cold weather ahead.
Thanks Max for seeking out grants and funding opportunities for the club.
Kim Silver will be stepping down from the role of media correspondent and welcomes Lisa Burnham to take the reins, reporting the clubs activities each week.
Thanks and welcome Lisa.
To all club members and the wider community, good health and good bowling.
