Club Mulwala Outdoor Bowls
Close calls in Weekend Pennant
On Saturday the A3s and B1s played at home to near neighbours Tungamah.
The day started with the awarding of honorary life membership to seven-time club champion John Lefevre, a well-deserved award.
In the A3s despite being opposite ends of the table all rinks were tight affairs with Club Mulwala prevailing by only four shots overall.
Gary Parker's rink was the best performing with a win of +4 while the coach’s rink won by the smallest of margins.
The B1s had a slightly higher margin of seven shots where again all rinks were close affairs placing the team in the top four for the first time this year.
Daryl Richmond's rink was the best on the day with +7 while Di Day's rink played well for +3 win.
Despite James Murdoch's rink playing outstanding bowls for a +10 win the B2s trip to Corowa Civic was not a good day.
Mid-week Pennant
In the Tuesday pennant the A2s headed across the railway tracks for the game against Border Golf.
Les Spencer's rink again played good bowls with a +16 win to set up a 21 shot win overall to keep the team at the top of the table. Darkie Day's rink also played good team bowls to run out winners by 15.
The B2s got the better of Corowa Civic this time a hard fought 7 shot win overall. Betty Richmond's rink combined well for a +8 win while Reg Atkinson's rink also won by the barest of margins.
The A3s were always going to have tough day against the undefeated Commercial Club.
The team put up a good showing to go down by 18 overall with Ian Morrfew's rink continuing their good form over the year to win their rink by five.

Mid Week Pennant
On Tues, Dec 2 result were a loss 51-61.
Robbie Wickhams rink is playing consistently well, so kudos to him, Peter McKay, Brian Batty and Geoff Hargreaves winning 26/13.
Great job. We are holding our own in this division, fifth place out of 8. Let’s get a win for the last week prior to Christmas Yarra.
B1s had a strong win at home against Milawa winning all rinks 79-45. Excellent win team and consolidating fifth position on the ladder. Good job Noel and team.
Jock McQualter’s rink of Judy Wenzel, Ken Chamberlain and June Binental were on fire -combining for an impressive 34-15 win. You’ve still got it Jock.
Weekend Pennant
The A1 team hosted YMGCR Friday night under lights in a stinking hot and windy night. What a contest we gave them.
Whilst we went down 71-80 it actually went down to the wire with the very last bowl of the night deciding the outcome.
With one bowl to roll Sammy Smith had the weight of the world on his shoulders to pull of a miracle shot and he very nearly did it, down four shots on the overall scoreboard and with his rink holding three shots. There was one shot in it.
Sammy decided to go for broke looking for the 4-5 that was on offer if he hit the Jack just so well, he hit the jack clean through a wall of bowls but unfortunately it just had a little too much weight and went back for a five to Border, so close Sammy. Still, no guts no glory. So great effort to all.
Garry Sanders rink went down by two and again a win by the consistent Robbie Wickham skipped rink. Captain reliable at the moment. His rink of Ros King, Wayne Barnes and Geoff Hargreaves had another top win over quality opposition winning 18/16.
A4s had a super tough day at North Albury losing all rinks by considerable margins.
It’s tough going facing a club that’s probably playing out of their division, and we are struggling at the same time. Heads up all. Bad days happen it’s how you respond that’s shows our character, rebound for a stronger performance next week guys.
B1’s also had a big loss at Moyhu losing two rinks by considerable margins, but a job well done by Eugene O’Connor’s rink of Donna Smith, Graeme Thomas and Elaine Thomas coming up with a hard-fought win 19-16 a highlight for the day.
Please note pennant practice has started on Thursday nights, from 4pm. We ask all bowlers to make every endeavour to participate.
Over 60s Competition
The crew headed to Dederang for a great day on and off the green scoring two wins skippered by Reliable Robbie Wickham and just going down by two shots in the last game and as usual enjoying themselves on the day.

Joe was a former player and all-round clubman taking on many roles. Joe was president 1995-1998 inclusive.
He made Friday night happy hours his own supplying the nibbles for many years and was Bar Manager from 1999-2009.
