YMGCR Bowls
Mid-Week Pennant
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
With last week’s Mid-Week Pennant round cancelled, it’s worth looking ahead rather than back.
The penultimate round takes place on Tuesday, 3rd February, and here’s what’s in store for YMGCR:
A1s: Currently 3rd on the ladder with 7 wins and 103 points, they host second-placed Wodonga, who have 7 wins and 106 points.
This is a vital game for the A1s, and a win would provide a huge confidence boost heading into the finals.
A2s: Sitting second with 7 wins and 100 points, the A2s play host to Mansfield, who are in 5th place with 4 wins and 80 points.
While tipping is always tricky, YMGCR are favourites and must secure a win in this must-win encounter.
B2s: Ranked 4th with 6 wins and 83 points, they travel to Corowa Civic, 7th on the ladder with 3 wins and 51 points.
Although the ladder suggests YMGCR as favourites, this is an away game, and Civic will be eager to defend their home turf, especially in their fight to avoid relegation.
Weekend Pennant
Just like the previous Mid-Week round, Saturday’s Round 13 games were called off due to extreme heat. With temperatures predicted to reach 38°C on Saturday, 7th February, games may be at risk again.
An early start at 10:00am is likely for all Round 14 fixtures.
Here’s a look at YMGCR’s final home-and-away matches:
A1s: Host Wodonga at the Golf Club. A challenging fixture, as Wodonga sit 1st with 10 wins and 183 points, while YMGCR are 3rd with 6 wins and 136 points. A win is essential to remain competitive heading into the finals.
A3s: Currently 6th with 4 wins and 101 points, the A3s travel to Tungamah, 7th on the ladder with 2 wins and 75 points. The A3s will be aiming to finish the season on a high, while Tungamah will fight hard to avoid relegation.
B1s: Ranked 5th with 4 wins and 77 points, they host Myrtleford, 2nd on the ladder with 9 wins and 127 points. A tough assignment, but home advantage could be key.
B2s: A standout team this season, currently 4th with 5 wins and 98 points, they face near-neighbours Club Mulwala, 5th with 5 wins and 95 points. With finals participation on the line, the B2s must win. This matchup promises to be one of the most compelling contests of the weekend.
Thursday Social Bowls
Hot weather has disrupted both Pennant and Social Bowls fixtures recently.
Last Thursday’s Social Bowls at the Golf Club was cancelled, but with milder weather forecast, Social Bowls will return this Thursday at 10:30am.
Format: Nominated 3-bowl pairs, 24 ends per game. Why play: The greens are among the best in the region, and the prize money is top-notch.
Simply place your names on the team sheets at the Bowls Office before Thursday morning. Single entries and visitors are welcome.
Please include a contact phone number.
Until next week, good bowling!
ClubMulwala Bowls
With no pennant bowls on Tuesday or Saturday this week due to the extreme heat the race for final will come down to the wire.
Weekend Pennant
In the Saturday pennant the A3 and B1 are definitely in after consistent seasons.
The B2 can make it 3 out of 3 with a win against Border Golf on Saturday.
It also looks like we will have three teams at home for the final game with Swanpool having some issues with their green. So come along and support the Burras.
Midweek Pennant
In the midweek Pennant the A2s are in with the A3 requiring at least 1 win but preferably two to ensure their appearance in the finals.
Unfortunately, the B2 after a tough year cannot make the play-offs.
Good bowling to all teams and hope we get to play.
Singles finals
On the club scene we have our Singles finals on Friday at 10am.
In the ladies Kay Smith plays Bev Hulm while in the men Andy Lefevre battles Les Spencer.
Come along and support all four with a sausage sizzle after.
Barefoot Bowls
On Wednesday at 4.30pm the RSL is holding barefoot bowls, so members come along and help out.
Barefoot bowls has been quiet due to the heat, but we still have a few booked in so still space for your group to fit in. Training has been moved to Thursday at 4pm for the rest of the season so join in so we can finish the year strongly.
That's all from the green this week so good bowling to all and enjoy the slightly cooler weather.

Sunday, 1st February – Triples Tournament
Postponed from last week due to heat, the Triples Tournament went ahead on Sunday. Many thanks to the teams who recommitted to the new date and to the teams who played at short notice, including Numurkah Golf and Cobram.

Lunch featured lamb chops and salad, accompanied by the signature hospitality that makes Tungamah special.
No three-game winners meant no playoffs were needed.
