Local champion Michael Szarbo (YMGCR), last year’s winner, will be looking to defend his title alongside Roz King from Yarrawonga Bowls Club.
The tournament will feature a strong field, including bowlers who have represented their region, state, and country, along with some exciting emerging players.
With 28 teams competing, the club is expecting two days of highly competitive bowls, and spectators are very welcome to come along and watch the action.
The club would also like to thank the organising committee from both the Bowls and Golf Club, along with event sponsors Central Murray Credit Union and Hahn Super Dry 3.5, for their support.
Thursday Social Bowls
Thirty-six players turned out last Thursday for Social Bowls. Both greens were in play, with bowlers playing in the north–south orientation. As usual, the game was one game of three-bowl nominated pairs.
The greens ran well, and there were plenty of close matches across the rinks.
First prize was won by Kurt and Brad Bleckwehl, who shared $100 and a drink card each. The runners-up prize of $60 was shared by Greg Fisher and Les Wilson. The losing rink consolation prize of $40 went to Anne Miles and Denise Trubiano.
The first Lucky Number raffle prize of $20 was won by Karen Bianco, and the second Lucky Number raffle prize of $10 went to David Carrington.
As the Hahn Super Dry Mixed Pairs Tournament will be played next Wednesday and Thursday, March 11 and 12, there will be no Thursday Social Bowls this week.
Social Bowls will return on Wednesday, March 18, starting at the traditional 12.30pm. The format will remain one game of three-bowl pairs, the entry fee will remain $10 per player, and the Lucky Number raffles will continue. Players should place their names on the entry sheets at the Bowls Office.
Friday Social Bowls
YMGCR’s popular Friday Social Bowls resumes on Friday, March 20. The format will be 2x4x2 nominated pairs, with an entry cost of $10. The prize money is among the best on offer in the region, and the Lucky Number raffles will return.
The game commences at 12.30pm. To be part of this great social bowling day, teams should place their names on the entry sheets at the Bowls Office notice boards. Visitors and single entries are welcome. Single entries should provide a contact telephone number when registering.

The Hahn Superdry Tournament will be held at the Golf Club on Wednesday and Thursday. Games commence around 9.30am. YMGCR End of Season Function
The YMGCR Bowls Section will celebrate another successful season on Sunday, March 29, at the lagoon. A BBQ lunch will be provided, with beverages available at member prices. The day starts at 12.00pm, with entertainment from 12.30pm.
The organising committee requests that members attending bring a plate, either a dessert or salad, to assist with catering. Significant others are welcome. Name sheets are available on the notice boards at the Bowls Office. Members are encouraged to place their names, and their partner’s names if attending, as soon as possible.

Club Mulwala Bowls
A2 Midweek Premiers
Last Tuesday saw the second grand final in three days for Club Mulwala’s top team. Like the Saturday team, the midweek A2s went through the season losing only one game.
After rain on Sunday and Monday, the green speed was very different at Wangaratta. Following a close semi-final against grand final opponents Border Golf, the team was anxious but confident.
While Border Golf dominated the early ends, Les Spencer’s rink built a strong lead, maintained throughout 21 ends. Overall, the game remained close, with Border Golf closing to within 2 shots in the final ends. Wayne Lowry eked out a one-shot win, and Darkie Day’s rink kept a close second, allowing Club Mulwala to celebrate an 11-shot victory.
Congratulations to all, and now the challenge of A1 next season. Thanks to all supporters who traveled to Wangaratta to cheer the team on.
On the club scene, social bowls are played on Tuesdays at 10am. Barefoot bowls remains popular, with groups from Blackbull Golf enjoying Thursday nights and Saturday sessions.
With the Men’s and Ladies’ pairs draws up, players should check the draw and organise their games. Upcoming tournaments include the Friends in Common event on March 22. Players can place their names on the sheet or contact Club Mulwala Bowls to enter.
