Hahn SuperDry Tournament 2026
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
The 2026 edition of the YMGCR Hahn SuperDry Tournament, held last Wednesday and Thursday, March 11 and 12, was probably one of the best yet.
The presentation of the greens, the surrounds, the appearance of the golf course and the clubhouse were exemplary. Thanks go to Course Superintendent Chris and Greens Supervisor Rohan.
The format for the tournament was five games of 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 mixed pairs played over two days: three games on Wednesday and two games on Thursday.
Lunch was served after the first game on both days. Wednesday saw a cold meat and salad lunch served, and on Thursday there were quiche Lorraine, hot chips and salad. Both lunches were terrific, and our thanks go to Michelle and her catering team.
The scoring system, which caused some headaches last year, worked seamlessly. Our thanks go to Wendy Pump and Chris Morrissy, who manned the scoreboard over the two days.
Scorecards were gathered and collated by Gary Presnell and Ray Brown. Thank you both.
The driving forces behind the success of the tournament were Kerry Kinnane, Shirley Hummel, Sue Beca and Anne Miles. Kerry and Sue wrangled the teams up for the event.
Shirley Hummel collated the entry fees and prize money, umpired over the two days, and organised the raffles. Anne Miles also brought passion and experience to the organisation and running of the tournament.
First prize was won by Anne Miles and Ian Brimblecombe, who shared $2,000. Second place was won by Matt Robertson and Di Hands, who shared $1,000. Third place was won by Laurie and Barb McDonald, who shared $500. Fourth place was won by Rhonda Irvine and Michael Vaughan, who shared $300.
The Mystery Draw team prize of $100 was won by Courtney Bennington’s side. The best team for Day 1 was Mary Paton and Chris Randall, who shared $100. The best team for Day 2 was Laureen Smith and Greg Green, also sharing $100.
In conclusion, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to YMGCR CEO Peter Savy for arranging the sponsorship package of $4,100.00 with Hahn SuperDry. Additionally, thank you to the YMGCR bar staff, whose prompt service over the two days was appreciated.
Sunday Social Bowls
Sunday Social Bowls commenced this Sunday, and the day was very well received by the players. Sixteen players participated, and we hope that number will increase over the coming weeks as the concept gathers momentum.
The game commences at 1.00 pm, with players asked to muster at 12.30 pm for the allocation of rinks and teams.
The format is single entry: two games of 12 ends of three-bowl pairs. The cost of the game is $5.00 per player.
The teams are decided by the convenors prior to the commencement of play. Ideally, there would be one experienced player playing with a lesser experienced or novice player.
As an icebreaker, there is a draw to the spider before the commencement of play. The draw to the spider was won by one of our new bowlers, Craig.
At the completion of the first game, the playing positions are reversed. The winners of the inaugural day were Lynne Baxter and Ray Brown, who shared $40. The consolation prize was won by Ron Lamson and Hayden Beca, who won $5 each.
The raffle of a roast pork and vegetable box was won by Trevor Kilpatrick. Our thanks go to Woolworths Yarrawonga and Terry Cartwright for their generous donation to the raffle.
Entry sheets for next Sunday’s game are now on the Bowls Office notice boards. See you next Sunday.
Ladies Pairs Final 2025 / 2026
The Ladies Pairs Final for the 2025 / 2026 season was contested by Rhonda Irvine and Laureen Smith, who played Anne Miles and Robyn Forge.
After a tightly contested and entertaining game, played in good spirits, it was Anne Miles and Robyn Forge who prevailed.
Congratulations to both teams for putting on such a good show, which kept the spectators enthralled.
Wednesday and Friday Social Bowls
The running of the Hahn SuperDry Tournament last week saw the Wednesday Social Bowls gang have a week off. Wednesday Social Bowls resumes this Wednesday, the 18th of March.
The game commences at 12.30 pm and the cost per player is $10.
The format is one game of three-bowl nominated pairs played over 22 ends.
Entry sheets for the games are always on the Bowls Office notice boards.
There is also the ever-popular Lucky Number raffle. Although the format is nominated pairs, single entries and visitors are still welcome to play.
Single entries and visitors, please include a contact telephone number when adding your name to the entry sheets.
Friday Social Bowls resumes this Friday, the 20th of March.
This is a very popular social day with great prize money on offer, good company, great tunes, and a chance to play on the best greens in the region. The cost per player is $10. The format is one game of 2 x 4 x 2 nominated pairs.
The Lucky Number raffles give players a chance to win some money if the day on the green has not gone according to plan.
As with Wednesday Social Bowls, single entries and visitors are most welcome to join in. Again, if you are a single entry or visitor, please include your contact telephone number when entering your name.
YMGCR / Mercy Health Barefoot Bowls Charity Challenge
Last week we gave you the winners of the YMGCR / Mercy Health Charity Challenge and the local charities that were the nominated beneficiaries of prize money won by each successful side.
This was the second successful edition of what we hope will be an ongoing addition to the YMGCR bowls calendar.
Our thanks go to the major sponsor of the tournament, Mercy Health, and particularly to Faye Audino and Dianne Adurn, representing Mercy Health.
Thank you also to Peter Crothers, Vice President of YMGCR Golf Club.
Thanks also to Kay Clarke and Max Currie, who are board members at YMGCR, and to Michelle Thomas and Terry Cartwright, who arranged the generous raffle prizes over the tournament provided by Woolworths Yarrawonga.
The Woolworths hampers delighted those players who were lucky enough to win one.
Thank you to Jill and Ron Lamson, whose generous donation of raffle prizes for each evening’s play was greatly appreciated. Jill and Ron also contributed to the successful running of the tournament with their administrative assistance.
Thank you also to Anne Miles, Peter Lidgerwood, Chris Horne, Trevor Kilpatrick and Ray Brown, who generously gave their time to ensure that the tournament was such a success.
Until next week, good bowling.

Tungamah Bowls Club
Successful Farmers Night
It was a terrific sight to see at the Tungamah Bowls Club on Friday, March 13 for the successful Farmers Night and event that has become an annual tradition at the club.
Over recent years, the night has seen a gradual changing of the guard.
Many of the local farmers are now the sons of those who originally established farms in the fertile Tungamah region and, more importantly, helped create the Tungamah Bowls Club.
Many young mothers were there entertaining the youngest of their children, while those a bit older entertained each other or enjoyed Zooper Doopers.
During the meal break, the kids had their own version of bowls, enjoying the freedom of play in a safe, supervised area. It is obvious there is a lot of talent in the Tungamah district, and we hope to see some of it on our greens next season.
The Farmers Night, whose major sponsor is Melaluka Trading – Grain from Crop to Consumer, has been a great supporter of our club for several years.
Simon from Melaluka Trading was in attendance once again and admitted he loves coming to Tungamah, feeling the atmosphere is more relaxed and real than at many bigger clubs. He also acknowledged the need for our continual fundraising efforts to replace our clubhouse and said this night of sponsorship was one small way to thank and repay the locals and their families for the business they provide during the year.
Other important sponsors of the night included Elders (Aaron Yarrawonga), O’Connors, Haeuslers, Hunters Trade, Rural & Hardware, AgnVet (IK Caldwell – Shepparton) and the Tungamah Hotel (Paul Basse, Publican). Without sponsors, clubs simply don’t exist.
We are fortunate and very grateful for the continued loyal support we receive from the above-mentioned sponsors. Most players went home with caps, hats, pens, or stubby holders, donated by Melaluka Trading or Elders.
Back-to-back victors on the night, taking home the Melaluka Trophy once again, were the Wren team: Tom with sons Lockie and Harry, and Frank Einsporn (Lockie and Frank were also in last year’s team).
Runners-up were Damian and Hayden Kelly of St James, with Margie and Dennis O’Dwyer of Yarrawonga.
Next year will see these teams of local farmers trying harder to win this impressive trophy and take it away from the Wrens.
Special thanks go to Bruce Beaton, who not only donated but also prepared the tasty pulled beef and pork rolls, nibbles, and everything to do with the kitchen that night, including the dishes.
With his daughter Tiffany manning one bar and her husband James (a Tungamah bowler) supporting, they gave the members a complete night off catering. This generosity was unprecedented, hard for locals to accept, but extremely appreciated.
Thanks also to Caz Barry, who is always on hand, and Lyn Lawless for their help.
A special thank you to the farmers who entered so many teams—without you, the night would not have gone ahead, and the green was full.
We also extend thanks to all who supported this night, including members who helped with preparing the green, the surrounds, manning entries, the bar, raffles, and the locals for their continued support of any function the club holds.
Upcoming Events
March 27: Tungamah Cricket Club – Presentation Night & Barefoot Bowls, 6 pm
This newly formed cricket club has had an excellent start. After years in recess, they have a talented group of new players, including sons of former players, local farmers, local tradies, and students.
As they don’t yet have a place to call their own, they have used our club or the Tungamah Hotel as a base this year. They plan or hope to put in a couple of wickets but currently use other grounds. Come down, have a look, support the new sport in town, and bring back some memories.
March 28: Boosey 1000 Classic
Get your team organised for this popular triples event.
April 18: Presentation Night & Major Raffle Draw
Get your $20 raffle tickets now for your chance to win flights for two people to Noosa for five days, plus $1,000 spending money, and more. Second prize is six tickets to a Melbourne Storm game at AAMI Park in the corporate lounge, plus more. Third prize is a Stihl chainsaw, carry case, and esky.
Players, please remember you have a book to sell. If you are a Tungamah player, this is your club, and you are expected to contribute on and off the green. Thank you.
