YMGCR Bowls
Weekend Pennant had the A1’s travel to Benalla and won 15/88 to 3/68. The big winners for the day were Jimmy Lefevre’s rink who won 31/12,”Disco” Davies is now settling into the skipper’s position and came away with a solid win 25/17 (next week the club will have to find a 3rd for the rink because Stuart McNeill is getting married......good luck).
Scott Widdison jumped out of the blocks to grab a good lead, but the opposition fought their way back to pick up a draw 16/16.
Szab’s rink had a bad day and lost 16/23. Still sit 2nd on the ladder.
In a top of the table clash between 2nd place, YMGCR A2’s and 3rd place Corowa Civic played at YMGCR.
In a great result YMGCR emerged with a great victory 18/94 to 0/55 and to top off a perfect day.....top team Myrteford lost to bottom side Yackandandah and this has put YMGCR 10 points clear on top.
The best rink was Ray Brown’s rink who started slowly but when they went short dominated to win 29/13. The “Cat” rink got an early lead and maintained that winning 25/14 and Laureen Smith’s rink had a solid team performance to win 21/13.
The tight game of the day was Rob Hummel ‘s rink with the lead changing many times throughout the day, but the boys stepped up over the last few ends to win 19/15.
The A4’s travelled to Corowa Civic and won 16/104 to 2/64, Bob Evans rink is having a good season and they produced the goods again winning 33/12, Doddy also had a good win 29/18 and Robert Lidgerwood rink also won 26/15 and Marie Whitehead lost 16/19.
This now puts them 5th on the ladder only 1 point from the 4. They have a tough run home ...BUT they are showing a lot of fight and they will give it their best shot.
The B2’s played St James at home and got out to an early lead and in a nail biting finish they hung on to produce their first victory for the year winning 10/56 to 4/55.
Pam Dodman had a brilliant win 22/15, Terry Matthews lost in a tight finish losing 18/19 and Billy Butterworth lost 16/21.
Midweek Pennant had the A1’s travel down to Benalla and came away with an unconvincing win, 12/56 to 2/55.
In an exciting finish YMGCR were 4 shots up with one to play and Miles was 3 down on the head.
The Benalla skip had a chance to draw a fourth for a tie but he missed and YMGCR got away with the win.
New skip in Stuart McNeill was impressive again winning 22/15. Anne Miles rink continued on their winning way with a 17/13 victory. Garry Sanders went down 17/27.
A2’s played the dangerous Kiewa at home and after some top bowls, YMGCR came out winning 14/62 to 0/48.
The scores don’t show how close the contest really was, Allan Goudge was always in control but on the last end and with only his last bowl to play, he was 6 shots down, but “Big” Al calmly played the perfect bowl to draw the shot for a 7 shot turn around and won 22/15.
Bob Evans was promoted to the skippers job and got a whole new rink with players being promoted, absent and a shock retirement but the old boy still got the job done and won 21/15.
Brown’s rink got off to a slow start again but won 7 ends in a row to get back into the game and they got a 2 on the last end to win 19/18. Still 2nd on ladder.
A3’s played Corowa RSL at home and won 12/76 to 2/53.
It was a good day for the McNeill’s with young Stuart McNeill having a good win in the A1’s but good old dad Danny’s rink blitz the opposition with a 31/6 win.
Les Balfour rink had a tough battle but got over the line 27/25 and Rob Hummel lost 18/22.
They are still well in the race for finals being only 2 points out of the 4.
The B1’s travelled to Milawa to play Wareena and on a very slow green they lost 0/36 to 14/86.
Best rink was Marry Essex losing 17/19, Lloyd lost 9/33 and Judy Goudge lost 10/34.
YMGCR have some new bowlers in the wrong bias club in Ray Brown, Rhonda Irvine (twice), Doddy and one of the old champs Doug McTier, it is starting to grow rather rapidly.
This week’s “RINK OF THE WEEK” went to Danny McNeill, Gavin Borwick, Pam Dodman and the smiling, singing assassin in Cecilia Milne; well done winning 31/6.
