ClubMulwala Outdoor Bowls
Season 2022-2023 - the season begins
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Although the club has been active on the greens throughout winter (when the weather was kind that is) the 2022/23 season really began on Sunday, August 21 when President/Secretary combined with Open Day was held. And what a great day it was.
The day started with a light lunch at 11am and the staff of ClubMulwala was, once again, wonderful in their assistance and very professional in their service and the club thank them for that.
Vice President gave an excellent speech and thanked President Graeme Arnold and Secretary Jan Morton for their continued professional and very successful representation of the bowling community over the past four, now entering five years.
President Graeme Arnold responded and thanked the members for their support over the years and especially the support that he has had from Secretary Jan.
The sun was shining; it was warm and a perfect day for bowls. The club still have a good number of sun chasers away, however still managed to get 30 bowlers on the green and a good number of spectators watching the action.
The President and Secretary picked their teams under the watchful eye of the Match Committee and the game was on. Although there was several ‘dodgy’ measures and calls throughout the day the President’s team overcame some fierce rivalry from their opposition with plus 5 shots up on the day.
This is the first win for the Presidents team in 4 outings and the Secretary and her fellow team members were gracious in defeat.
As well as the competition for bragging rights there were two rinks which achieved outstanding results with plus five shots up and on countback the following results were achieved:
Best winning rink – Malcolm Miller, Liz Murdoch and Doug Chessum followed very closely in second position was Gary Parker, Betty Richmond and Greg Bennett.
The meat tray by HICKS Butchers was won by Russell Cook.
A special thank you to Ray Tovey for his assistance in the conduct of the day’s activities, also President Graeme Arnold, Vice President Wayne Dowsey, Secretary Jan Morton, the numerous club members who assisted in setting up and taking down and Greens Keeper Gary Parker for the great presentation of the greens for play.
Thank you to the ClubMulwala staff who were of great assistance in making the day a great success and Jenny for your wonderful service after the game.
Social Bowls
Social bowls activities have drawn reasonable numbers between 16 and 24 weekly which is outstanding considering the small membership and the numbers who are still away for their winter obsession.
The social bowls program will soon move to Thursday mornings as part of the pennant practice regime. Looking forward to good numbers attending these activities.
Williamstown visit Sunday, August 28
Williamstown visited from Friday, Aug 26 to Sunday, Aug 28.
They played among themselves on Friday and Saturday and had a great day on the Sunday playing with them where the club mixed up the teams.
With 42 bowlers on the green the club had a wonderful day. They are such great people to play with and so much fun was had on the greens and of course afterwards.
There are a lot of people to thank and it should be acknowledged, the great work the match committee put in with Trevor Loe on the bar, Stephen McPhee setting up and running the raffle and Ray Tovey for setting up, taking the money and generally helping out.
But that’s not half of it. There are a wonderful group of members who assisted in setting up and tearing down after the game. Malcolm Miller and Judy Laughlin who cooked the BBQ and everyone who played on the day can take a bow for your contributions. Thank you.
