The Rennie Hoppers’ Seniors made it two in a row with a strong 35-point win over Blighty at home on Saturday.
The Rennie Hoppers kicked the first goal but gave up the next four, and things were looking grim. However, Rennie regrouped, with Bruce lively up forward, Lewie Taylor gaining forward metreage and Soutter persistent in the ruck. A late-term rally saw the Hoppers lead by a point at the first break.
The second term saw the Hoppers take control, kicking four unanswered goals to go into the main break 25 points ahead.
Coach Marcus Hargreaves was dominant in the middle, Kirchen was elusive and creative, and Woodhouse and McGillivray were conduits into the forward line.
The coach asked for the intensity levels to stay high, and Rennie extended its lead to 42 points at the final break. Wood in deep defence and Bassett at half-back were impassable, with Basso sneaking forward to snag one of his two goals for the afternoon.
Preston also stood up with fierce determination, and his unique kicking style was rewarded with a great goal.
In the final term, Blighty fought back, but Rennie held firm to make it two in a row and win by 35 points in clearly its best team effort of the season.
Bruce and L. Taylor kicked three each and Bassett kicked two on a day when the Hoppers had 11 goalkickers, with Under 17s players Rhodes and Wheeler each kicking a goal. The best players were Jack Bassett and Lewis Taylor.

Knighter was a star, clunking everything. The Z Factor kicked three, Brucey and Withers were the finishers with two each, and Jacko, who has led from the front all season, showed his class and skill.

It was bad kicking and bad footy by the Under 14s team, with just 11 goals from 35 shots.
The team still won, but plenty of skills will need to be sharpened in the coming weeks.
Santoro was awesome this week, kicking two of his own and allowing teammates to get into scoring positions. Truey snagged four, galloping Taylor Lewis was rampant on his wing, and Silk Giblett was smooth. Execution indifferent, result good.

From the opening centre pass, Rennie set the tone with relentless defensive pressure and patient, accurate ball movement through the court. Every player contributed, with seamless transitions from defence into attack allowing the goalers plenty of opportunities to convert.
The defensive end worked tirelessly to force turnovers and limit Blighty’s scoring chances, while the midcourt linked beautifully to keep the ball flowing. In attack, the shooting combination was clinical, capitalising on the hard work created further down the court.

Charlotte also had one of her best games of the season, confidently playing multiple positions to a high standard while providing constant positive encouragement from off the court.
Demi was her reliable self, transitioning the ball up the court seamlessly and consistently applying pressure to force opposition errors.
Ruby also had a fantastic game, with excellent hands-over pressure and some brilliant intercepts that created valuable opportunities for the team. Rennie thanked Blighty for a great game, and the Hoppers could be proud of their effort.

This week, Rennie’s girls had a great win against Blighty. They showed just how determined they were, and it was fantastic to see everything they had been working on at training showing on the court.
Their teamwork was a real highlight, with everyone working together from start to finish.
Rennie’s shooters, Koda, Darcy and Grace, continued to combine beautifully in the goal circle. Their shooting was accurate, and the way they moved around the ring showed great awareness of one another, creating plenty of space and room to move freely.
Abbey had a strong game through the midcourt. She was placed in a couple of new positions and handled them with confidence. It was hard to tell that she had not played those positions much before, as she adapted incredibly well and worked hard all game.
Alice had a fantastic game in defence, picking up plenty of loose balls and applying great pressure to the Blighty attackers. Her determination and ability to win the ball back for the team made a big impact.
