Tungamah 45 defeated Katandra 40.
It was a tough and well fought match for the Bears A grade girls but they came out firing to get those four points. Although there were new additions to the team this year with Tahnee, Chloe L and Marissa, the girls looked like a tight and strong team that have played with each other for quite some time.
The defensive pressure down the court and in the ring caused many turnovers and created some great passages of play into the ring.
Unfortunately, now the girls have three weeks off, but looking to work on a few things to come out stronger for the second game.
Awards: One Zach - Chelsea Sidebottom (players player), Belle Pelle - Chloe Lawless and Wingate’s - Tahnee Pearce.
B Grade
Tungamah 54 defeated Katandra 8.
A few quick goals established the lead early on and helped dissipate any first game nerves. The team managed to create good space and remain settled which attributed to the goal conversion while the strong defensive pressure all down the court lead to multiple turnovers.
With Ella out injured it meant the Bears were down to 8 players however the strong lead gave Tungamah the ability to switch up positions and highlighted some plays that are needed to refine. Overall, it was a fantastic start to the season!
Awards: Players player - Tiffany Thomas (Free As A Bird), Best on - Tiffany Thomas (Miss Dolly) and Coach’s award - Kirby Holmquest (Aerial).
C Grade
Tungamah 64 defeated Katandra 25.
Pretty good effort considering the Bears haven't spent a lot of time together and the shooting combination was made up of defenders - lucky one of them could shoot - MD - legend!
Can't wait to see where the season takes the C Grade.
Awards: Tungamah Hotel – Ally Cooper (players Player), Bella Pelle – Mariah Duffy (Coach’s award), Club Mulwala – Caz Purtell (Oppositions pick)
C Reserve
Tungamah 21 defeated by Katandra 22.
Off to a rocky start early in the week when super star coach Sally went into iso, but the team rallied and stepped up to fill some big shoes.
First quarter was looking strong some good passages of play. The team are still working each other out, something the Bears will work on over the next few weeks.
The last quarter the team turned up the defensive pressure and came back from 4 goals down to being up by a goal, unfortunately Katandra fought back to take the lead and went down by a goal.
The coach is extremely proud of everyone for their effort Saturday, the coaches know with a bit more training the C Res will be unbeatable.
Awards: Wingate’s – Jorja Goldman (Players Player), Bella Pelle – Sophie Lidgerwood and Yarrawonga Pilates – Kait Megarrity.
Under 17s
Tungamah 9 defeated by Katandra 41.
Going into the first game of the season against Katandra the girls knew it was going to be a tough one. The defenders worked hard all day trying to get every rebound they could and get their hands onto the ball for intercepts to make it a turnover.
The mid courters pushed hard all game providing opportunities when they could. They also did some great passes into the goalies. The shooters did a great job in the ring on the day.
They were on tough defenders but did their best by following up any goal they may have missed and having hands over to create pressure.
The scoreboard doesn’t represent how hard the girls played and how they never gave up and pushed to the end of the game.
Awards: Anna Zanin - $10 cash award, Bridie Hodgson- Golf club award, Mykie Mcburnie - Yarrawonga fish and chips and Addi Priestley - Tungamah shop.
Under 15s
Tungamah 19 defeated Katandra 13.
The girls started the season with a win, proving that their defensive pressure with hands constantly over the ball was able to slow the play down and create many turnovers.
The girls had great movement throughout the whole court. The attackers worked really well in the ring with sticking in-front of their players whilst utilising their space in the ring to get their goals in. Well done girls on your first win!
Awards: Tungamah Shop – Marney, Crusty Loaf - Lily (players player), Fish and Chips – Emma.
Under 13s
Tungamah 11 defeated by Katandra 19.
It’s great to get a start for the 2022 season. The Bears have a large under 13s squad who are lucky enough to be coached by the very talented Jenny and Keely.
Tungamah came out firing in the 1st quarter scoring 5 goals to nil, however they lost their way a little for the rest of the game.
The centre players of Charli, Kiera, Abbi, Laila and Tayla were kept very busy moving the ball down the court to the attack.
The new attack line up of Lucy, Chloe and Elli worked well together and moved the ball around the ring when needed.
Again, a new defence line up of Brooke and Lilli communicated well and were always jumping for rebounds. A few things to work on in the coming weeks, but the coaches are sure the girls will improve each week if they listen to Coach Jen and Keely.
Big thanks to Deb for umpiring and the club wish Emily a speedy recovery from an ankle injury.
Awards: Tungamah Shop - Tayla M, Crusty Loaf - Lucy J and Yarrawonga Fish & Chips - Lilli R.
