Tungamah hosted close rivals Katamatite on Saturday in what was billed as match of the round with both sides sitting in the top 4.
As is the tradition the two teams battled it out for the coveted Boosey Cup and after handing it over to the Tigers last season, the Bears were keen to get it back in their trophy cabinet.
In slippery conditions both sides started pretty well, the home side had 80% of the play and were continually pumping the ball inside 50 however the Katamatite defence was holding firm.
The Bears managed 3 goals for the term however Katty were efficient when they went forward and scored 2 of their own to trail by a goal at the first break. Tungamah lifted their intensity in the second term with the midfield starting to gain some ascendancy.
Stevenson, Ferguson, Nick Irvine, and Matt O’Kane were finding plenty of the ball and giving the forwards some good looks. Ash Saunders was the main focal point up forward and was providing some headaches for the Tigers defence.
The mosquito fleet of Chris Powell and Jhett Cooper were both applying plenty of pressure at ground level with Jhett having his best game for the club to date. Half time saw the Bears extend their lead to 5 goals, but the contest was still alive.
After the long break Tungamah put their foot on the pedal and really took the game away from their opposition. Their running power was evident, and they ran the Tigers off their legs.
Damon Symes and Liam Connell gained the ascendancy in the ruck and were great contributors around the ground as well. The defence was solid with Gus Ford and James Lawless getting the better of their opponents and Dylan Scott and Josh Chapman providing some good rebound.
Youngsters Ned Connell, Oscar Willis and Des O’Kane continue to improve each week and will be long term players for the club. Cam Tregenza was another who had his best game for the season racking up some large numbers on his wing.
Super sub Liam Williams came on after half time and deserves a mention for his 3 goals which were all class.
All in all, it was a solid 4 quarter performance with the boys building nicely as the season progresses.
Tungamah look forward to hosting Katunga next weekend and another challenge.

Reserves
Tungamah 22.17.149 defeated Katamatite 0.1.1.
This week saw some of the biggest returns since Buzz and Neil returned in Apollo 11 with C. Jones, J. O’Shea, S. Lidgerwood and R. Saunders all back on the team sheet.
With the vote dispenser C. Jones back in the ruck Tungamah found 20 blokes who thought they should have been the go-to tap man. After some heated discussion the coaches left it up to the big fella and the increased score ensued.
The reserves relished the sowing period coming to an end with the big farmers Kellock, Rogers (Symes) and O’Shea all finishing up on the tractor this week. Angus Rogers was instrumental proving his not shy of getting a hard ball but had to go very defensive after the game to hold off many advances.
The ever crisp threw down the challenge to Dan Clarke for best utility as he remained calm and polished in several positions. The finisher put another game to bed off his own boot.
The great man Mitch Adkins proved the only thing he can’t do is concreting as he continues to do everything right but can’t cement himself in the senior side. Jake Henderson remains worried about having to take a boot off to count his goals as he goes high single figure for a third week straight. Unfortunately, the game was slightly marred by an incident when the new kid O’Shea was robbed at knife point for what was to be a sure goal.
Tom Lidge inspired by his favourite show the voice decided to put on his rendition of Miley Cyrus (he came in like a wrecking ball).
The club man of the week continued his list of chores as he mowed plenty of grass with his forward 50 entries. Congratulations to Tom Irvine who won the lucky dip of the one kick that hit its target.
Goals: J Henderson 9, T Irvine 5, N Gamble 2, A Richardson 2, M Bourke 1, S Kellock 1, T Lidgerwood 1, J O’Shea 1, J Reilly 1.

Thirds
Tungamah 8.6.54 defeated Katamatite 1.6.12.
Tungamah welcomed traditional rivals Katamatite for a top of the ladder clash. The game started under light drizzle which made it and little slippery with both sides hard at it.
The Bears put together a fantastic 4 quarter match with every player contributing and playing a part to bring home a fantastic 42-point win. Jaxon Raven played his best game for the season at times looked like he bought his own ball.
Axle Doherty in his first game for the Bears was strong up forward taking some great marks and slotted 3 goals. Geoff Montgomery, Jayden Arnold, Liam Williams, Tom Costigan and Beau Cummins were strong and constantly controlled the play driving the ball forward.
The backline was rock solid and only allowed the Tigers to score 1 goal for the game. The coaching group were excited with the result and the efforts of all the players.
Let’s keep the momentum rolling for the remainder of the season.

Fourths
Tungamah 18.21.129 defeated Katamatite 1.0.6.
Another impressive performance by the Bear 4ths. They got off to a great start kicking 7 goals in the first quarter. Lachie Wren was great in the ruck all day, even getting up and kicking a goal.
Cooper Wilson had a strong game taking some big marks around the ground. They listened to their coaches and really focussed on keeping the forward line open and there was some very unselfish play by the forwards.
It was great to see all the kids getting an opportunity in different positions. Both teams played with spirit and showed respect to each other.

Fifths/Bear Cubs
The young cubs were lucky enough that the rain started just as they began to play. Another big game was played with both Katamatite and Tungamah having large groups. It was great to see the youngest cubs get in and get some of the ball and contribute to the game.
The older cubs are showing great skills and are improving every week.
