Lining up against Essendon at Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon, Port Adelaide bounced back from a horror round one loss against North Melbourne to blitz the Bombers by 63 points in a bruising encounter.
Berry was influential in the opening stages of the contest for Port, booting two goals from nine disposals to half-time to help the Power essentially put the game to bed, with the lead nearing 50 points as the two sides entered the rooms.
The small forward continued to find the footy in the second half, too, finishing the afternoon with 19 disposals, two goals, six marks and nine score involvements to his name, as the Power romped to a mammoth 63-point victory over an insipid Essendon.
The win marks the first victory for Port Adelaide under new coach Josh Carr, however, it was soured somewhat by a hamstring injury to captain Connor Rozee, with Carr telling reporters after the game that first indications suggested it was quite a serious tear.
“(Rozee is) obviously a bit flat. It doesn't look great,” Carr said.
“Initially there was a bit of nerve damage and he couldn't feel his leg and reviewing it after the game, it looks likely a tendon involved. Fingers crossed it's not, but that's the most likely scenario.
“It sours (the win) because our skipper has what could be a significant injury, and we don't want that for anyone in our football club.”
State league footy returned in Victoria at the weekend, too, with the opening round of the 2026 VFL season also featuring a Benalla product.
Hawk Harry Morrison found himself plying his trade for Box Hill against Sydney’s reserves on Friday afternoon, having been left out of Hawthorn’s AFL side for a second straight week.
But the wingman was among Box Hill’s best in the 16.11 (107) to 10.11 (71) victory at Kennedy Community Centre in Dingley, gathering 26 disposals, eight marks and two tackles as he continues to press his case to be included in the senior side again.
