Our local team comprising Kylie Whitehead, Anne Miles, Laureen Smith and Claire Sanders secured a third State title for Ovens & Murray region in the fours event on April 26 and 27 at Bendigo East.
The awesome foursome represented one of 16 regions across Victoria, beating Ballarat Highlands 17/12 in the final of the 2023 fours Victorian state title lawn bowls championships.
To reach the final, Ovens and Murray got home against Metro Yarra Region 11/10, accounted for Gippsland 20/10 in the quarter-final and proved too good for Metro Sandbelt 12/8 in the semi-final.
After winning the 2021 National Women’s Fours, our four stars have booked themselves another shot at the big prize which is being held in Perth in October this year.
“We felt we were fortunate to grab the wins from both Yarra and Sandbelt regions who consisted of mostly state players and a Canadian international,” Anne told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“It stands us in good stead knowing we are capable of the tough wins leading up to the national event in October.
“Our skip Kylie is a current Jackaroo so we are in good hands! It would be absolutely amazing to back up an Australian title fours again this year.”
