Yarrawonga Mulwala Lakers Cricket Club 2025/2026 WDCA C Grade Premiers.
The C Grade Lakers packed the kit and rolled across to North Wangaratta to take on the flag favourites, Beechworth Wanderers… and let’s just say, they left with more than just a few empty cans.

Losing the toss (as is tradition), the Lakers were sent in on what can only be described as a “vintage” setup, no cones, no ropes… just vibes. Boundary? The fence. Good luck.
Runs were harder to find than a sober bloke at Mad Monday, but as they’ve done all year, Dhamindu and Jordan “Meat Eater” Knight dug in early.
Dhamindu battled his way to 11 before getting a classic “yeah… probably not out” LBW.
Enter Adam Dodd, aka “The Brick Wall,” who got the innings moving with a gritty, match-winning 43.
Meat Eater didn’t hang around long after, out for 3, possibly distracted thinking about his next deer steak.
Young Tom “T-Bone” Taylor looked the goods before being run out for 1, stiff, but at least he didn’t have to face Browning in the nets later.
Then came the Whiley Old Fox, Gus Browning, who waddled out and did exactly what he does best, annoy bowlers and accumulate runs.
He and Dodd stitched together a crucial stand before Browning was run out thinking he was Gout Gout, but he is not Gout Gout and was Out for a handy 13.
“Two First Names” Kade Michael was solid as ever with 16, before launching one to many into the air.
Parker (late call-up thanks to Jamieson’s “European illness”, believed to be alcohol poisoning) came in and made the most of it, finding the long boundary a few times on his way to a solid 27*.
Young Taj Parker batting with his dad for the last over got a quick single away 1 ball 1* run to get his old man on strike!.
Lakers finished at a defendable 6/127… or so they thought.
After demolishing the afternoon tea, the Lakers took the field with the Kooka… and things got ugly (for Beechworth).
Two First Names opened up like a man possessed, tight as a drum, finishing with 1/10 off 5.
At the other end, Browning was doing things that defy physics. The ball was swinging, seaming, possibly talking… moving 600-700mm off a concrete pitch. Ridiculous.
Young Taj Parker bowled beautifully (0/9), while Meat Eater kept things tight (0/13) and resisted the urge to over-celebrate anything.
T-Bone Taylor, clearly still filthy about the run-out, came back breathing fire with 2/5 off 4 overs. A serious spell along with a fantastic run out
Byron Dodd chipped in with a run-out rocket from point (one of four for the innings with the fielding coach in tears), while “Wild Thing” Dec Reeves backed it up again with 0/4 off 2.
The C Grade side featured five father son combinations over the season.
Byron also grabbed 1/5, but let’s be honest… this was the Gus Browning Show.
Brought back on to finish it, Browning needed just one ball and claimed an LBW. Game over.
Browning took home Best on Ground with final bowling figures: 4/2 off 7.1 overs, 6 maidens.
Yes… 2 runs. That is not a typo. That is criminal activity.
The C Grade side featured five father son combinations over the season.
