Lancaster's Chiquita Vick has started the Kyabram District League A-grade netball season in sensational fashion, shooting 39 goals against a quality opponent as her team started the season on a winning note.

Vick shot all but six of Lancaster's goals in its 45-36 win with the Wombats leading by nine at half-time before Stanhope matched it goal-for-goal in the second half.

There were 50 second-half goals, both teams scoring 25 as Jemma Maree-Wright and Jinaya Nurse had a much more productive second half in goals for Stanhope.

Cassie-Lee Westley had four different Stanhope opponents for the afternoon as Stanhope started with Tanesha Nurse in the pivot before turning to three other options — including the returning Jamieson Young — to lead its midcourt.

Merrigum debutante coach Maddie Wilson started her season on a winning note when the Bulldogs beat Rushworth 45-29 and in the other local contest it was a big win for Girgarre against the typically strong Tallygaroopna.

Girgarre won the match by eight goals, 36-28, with former league medallist Holly Nelson back to her best after spending much of last season on the sidelines.
