Mia Macheda and Marty Dermietzel have been in good form of late, but they will need to maintain that pace to get over Kev Young and Michael Barclay this week whilst Darren Edwards and Luca Macheda Dan Young take on Dave Arazuhaldzic and Ben Dundee.
Our in-house bookie has declared this event one of the most even competitions in recent memory and has refused to name a favourite, so good luck to everyone remaining in the chase.
Our monthly Club Challenge held on 3/6 was taken out by Daryl McKernan when he held off one of the leaders in our player of the year stakes in Darren Edwards.
Daryl is soon retiring as our club treasurer after many years of service, for which all members are very grateful, so it is fitting that he took out this competition during his final month in this role.
Thanks again Daryl and congratulations to both you and Darren on making this final.
Another monthly event is our Digger’s Tribute, for which results accumulate towards an end of year award. Mia Macheda took out the June challenge when she defeated Heie Hansen on Monday 10/6. Mia is also in training to become our next club secretary and is performing both her on and off table activities with great skill and aplomb.
Social nights on Wednesday evenings have been very well supported despite the advent of winter and its attendant decisions about stepping out of warm homes on chilly evenings.
Wednesday, May 29 saw us playing a doubles event due to the number of participants. Adrian Ridley and Kev Young rose to the occasion to win the final over Darren Thompson and Michael Barclay in what was a much-enjoyed competition for all.
Wednesday, June 5 saw Michael Barclay continuing his consistent form when he defeated Mia Macheda to claim the Club Mulwala voucher.
Kev Young took out the resurgent Jason Bassett to annex the social night of 12/6 in what was a spirited encounter. Kev likes to move the balls around the table at great speed and Jason is not averse to risk, so their encounters are always entertaining.
As can be seen on the Club Mulwala website, its members newsletter and our Club Mulwala Snooker Club Facebook page we welcome new members or anyone who may like to give snooker a try. Club Mulwala sponsors our club very generously so our value for money ratio for players is very high indeed.
There are a variety of events held every Monday and Wednesday evening and there are plenty of opportunities for new players to join or come along to try our facilities out. We have two excellently maintained full size tables, which have recently been re-surfaced and a new state of the art lighting system.
Our snooker room is available for competition, practice and visitor use, and the club has its own regularly updated handicapping system to ensure players from beginners to advanced level can compete equally.
There are also plenty of experienced and skilled players (including the current Oceania Masters champion) who can help with advice and tips on how to improve your game or perhaps adapt it for those who have played pub or social pool in the past.
Please contact us on either 0497 062443 or 0418 361779 or visit us on a Wednesday evening before 7.00 PM if you would like to give snooker a try.
