After waiting almost two years to hold a Social Day of Golf Croquet, on Monday, April 4 with the weather ideal, the Vice President Kay Hanrahan welcomed players from Albury, Beechworth, Benalla, Howlong, Walla Walla, Wangaratta and Wodonga to Mulwala.

The players looked forward to a day of playing croquet on the superb croquet courts in the magnificent Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort surroundings.
Lesley Dean, the captain of the Yarrawonga Mulwala club directed all thirty-six players, six groups of 1st colours and three groups of 2nd colours making up each round, in the direction of their correct courts.
Each player having four games to play during the day. The first ball on all six courts was struck at 10am. It was the beginning of many hard-fought games, with the players showing their skill in the art of running the hoop to score for themselves and partner.
The games continued on through the day, all finishing later than expected at 3pm.
Morning and afternoon tea was provided making time for players from the different clubs to catch up with each other. A great deal of chatter, laughter and reminiscing was had which made the day one to remember.
The winner for the day was Janet Kelly from Wangaratta having four wins, 36 hoops. Runner up was Gerd Roemer from Wodonga having four wins, 35 hoops.
Wendy Wiltshire from Yarrawonga Mulwala was given a special mention. Wendy having four wins, 30 hoops which was a very good result. The winner received $50 and second received $30.
The first prize for the raffle was a hanging basket of Petunias in full bloom. This was won by Susanne Nielsen from Howlong. The second prize was a $20 voucher from Bunnings, won by Tony Daniel from Howlong.
New players, men and women, are most welcome to come along and learn how to play this very addictive game of croquet.
The greens are in the grounds of the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort. Tuesday and Thursday mornings are for the more experienced players – 9am to noon.
Friday and Saturday mornings for beginners – 9am to noon. People wishing to learn how to play croquet can do so on any Friday morning wearing flat soled shoes.
Mallets are supplied. It’s that simple.
