The team played a strong Katamatite side last week, with the Cutters going down by 206 points.
Katamatite have only lost one Picola League game this year, which was to Katandra in round five.
Despite the loss, Cutters senior coach Adam Bourke said the side showed a glimpse of some of their best football last weekend.
“We definitely had our best period of football for the season for 15 minutes in the third quarter,” he said.
“We kept them to two goals in the third quarter, and we kicked two points.
“We probably should’ve kicked three or four goals from our opportunities.
“It was second and third effort kind of footy which was pleasing to see.”
Unfortunately for the Cutters, as the scoreboard showed, they let Katamatite run away with the game.
“We let them back in that quarter, to kick five or six goals.
“It was consistent with our inconsistency this year, but overall, I thought we were really competitive against them.
“Consistency, to get better for longer periods, is our aim.
“We had a few more hitouts and clearances on the weekend, and hopefully, we can continue that.”
Bourke said it is good for the team to witness what the best teams in the league are doing.
They get another chance this weekend, away against the league’s second best performing team.
“I was saying to the coaches on the weekend that we want to be playing the best sides.
“Against the best sides, you get to compare what they’re doing with what we’re doing.
“We want to minimise turnovers, increase tackles and limit easy free kicks against us.
“Playing the best sides is the way to improve, and we’re up for the challenge.”
The team will be prepared for a Katandra side that is looking to rack up some high scoring wins.
“It’ll be our toughest game of the year, no question,” Bourke said.
“Katandra will likely be on top of the ladder in a couple of weeks, so it will be a good test for us.”
