The JC Lowe Oval will be full of tennis courts for the, at capacity, Easter Tennis Tournament this long weekend.
After months of planning the Easter Tennis Tournament will commence on Friday. After reaching the 1350 capacity limit within an hour after opening entries the club’s committee has worked extremely hard to plan a great event.

The groundsmen headed by greenskeeper Warwick Henderson have done a wonderful job not only maintaining the 23 grass courts but also preparing the football oval for tennis. The football oval looks fantastic with great grass coverage.
A special thankyou to our members who volunteered their time over the weekend to prepare the oval. Saturday involved marking the oval, whilst Sunday was devoted to assembling the netting on the oval and a general clean up around the complex.
Long serving committee man Peter Thomas suggested that this was the quickest the oval had ever been prepared.
As well as fantastic tennis being played, local musician Daine Runnalls will be entertaining the crowd between 5pm and 9.30pm on Saturday night. This is a new initiative, and it is hoped that a lot of people will stay for a barbecue and a refreshment.
The entire local community is invited to come and watch the tennis over the weekend. It is a unique event and the biggest tournament of its type in Australia.

Saturday morning finale
Saturday morning juniors have completed their season with a fantastic final morning. The Hot Shots and coaching groups have shown immense improvement over the six-month period.
Club coach Greg Duns overseeing the coaching and youngster Lucy Bassett leading the Hot Shots have both been supported by a wonderful group of junior coaches that have approached every activity with a positive attitude. Players in these groups will continue to develop their skills.

There were a series of presentations prior to the Parent/Child matches being played. The players that have won the most games for the season were announced.
The top four boys were Noah Cox, Theo Vodusek, Anthony Nieuwenhout and Ernie Buerckner.
The top four girls were Billie Buerckner, Annabelle Buerckner, Billie Prestage and Eliza Lawrence. Congratulations to these players as this indicates a consistently high level or performance in their matches.
Presentations were also made to the two most improved players. Thomas Lawrence was awarded the most improved boy and Ruby O’Kane was awarded the most improved girl. Both of these players have made rapid growth and are taking additional opportunities to play and practise besides Saturday mornings.
The Sportsmanship Award went to Kendall Connell. Kendall is always fair on the court and is renowned for her generous line calls.
To complete the season the Parent/Child matches were played. It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves on the courts. It was even better that there were no injuries to the parents.
With the curtain falling on the season, it can be announced that the record for the amount of icy poles consumed at a sporting club has been well and truly smashed.
Thank you so much to Lisa Linehan and Narelle Bassett for not only supplying the icy poles but for also ensuring that the matches start promptly every week.
Saturday morning juniors will commence in October 2024, and it promises to be even bigger and better.
Veterans Tournament
The North East Veterans circuit continued on the weekend with a tournament in Euroa. As usual Yarrawonga was well represented and again these players dominated.
Group winners were Ellen Bruce and John Brunner. Mike Lairson and Amy Lairson also played well against some very strong players. The next tournament in this series is in Nathalia on April 7.
