Will it be the year of the Bear once again?

The 2024 Goulburn Murray Junior League under-16 division one premiership was emphatically won by Shepp Notre Bears and an early read of the radar suggests the boys in gold and maroon are hell-bent on going back-to-back.

Sunday pitted Shepp Notre Bears against Shepparton United and, despite three quarters of close footy, the visiting side produced a thumping third term to clinch the match 10.16 (76) to 6.4 (40) at Kialla Park Reserve.

At the main break, the Bears led 31-20.

But by the final change of ends, Shepp Notre was cruising with a 52-point buffer thanks to a 6.6 barrage while holding United scoreless, and despite a Demons’ resurgence in the last it was all she wrote.

In the round’s other games, Kyabram prevailed 10.5 (65) to 9.2 (52) over Echuca Murray Bombers while its fellow green battalion, Echuca Bombers, ran over the top of Shepparton Swans 15.15 (104) to 4.0 (24) thanks to a five-star, five-goal performance from Mitchell Sutton.
