A beautiful winter’s day saw the Hoppers play Barooga for the first time, with the match at Barooga, the same ground where Rennie won its 2011 senior flag.
The senior Hoppers started well, with goals to coach Connor Hargreaves and Lewie Taylor, and with a tight, functioning defence, they were down by 15 at the first break.
A great mark and goal to youngster Zander Rhodes early in the second term saw the Hoppers holding their own, but with injuries mounting, they had no bench by half time, and this became telling.
To the team’s credit, they kept hanging in there until early in the final term, when the floodgates opened for Barooga.
Soutter battled manfully all day, while Clarke held the defence together, and Bassett was a great inclusion with his work at both ends.
Best players were Josh Soutter and Lewis Taylor.

The Hoppers twos put in a super effort, going down by 55, with the scoreboard not reflective of the team’s effort.
The difference in the game was Barooga’s ability to kick a clutch goal.
Ash Thissen kicked the only goal and Joseph Ferguson again led by example.
Michael Paine was polished and newcomer Zane Willis was super in his attack on the ball.

The threes will enjoy a week off after again having a red-hot go, keeping in the game until half time before being blown away after the long break.
Hodgson just doesn’t give up down back, Guthrie was quality each time he got the ball, and Carey is a smooth mover who also played well.

The Hoppers were good early, kicking four goals, but were completely outplayed and out-structured, losing by 16 points, with the scoreline flattering the Hoppers.
Haack was super in defence, Ednie kicked three, and Strawhorn was dominant down back, but there were too many Hoppers second to the ball or not manning up, and these weaknesses will provide coach Hemphill with plenty of ammunition going into the last five rounds.

Rennie 44 defeated Barooga 42.
What a game from the A Grade side. Barooga held the lead for much of the contest, but Rennie never lost belief. The team stayed composed, trusted each other and continued to chip away at the margin.
The final quarter was something special. With defensive pressure lifting across the court and everyone playing their role, Rennie found another level when it mattered most.
The determination and resilience on display saw Rennie finish over the top, claiming a thrilling 44–42 victory.
Congratulations to Demi Rhodes on receiving the RNC Incentive Award after another outstanding performance.

Despite injuries and illness affecting the team, Rennie was fortunate to have Lily and Jazmin step up from the 17s. Both girls played with confidence, embraced the challenge and slotted seamlessly into the team.
Gaby was outstanding in defence, producing numerous intercepts and deflections that created valuable opportunities to transition the ball down the court. She combined brilliantly with Georgie, whose vocal communication, leadership and support for her teammates were evident throughout the game.
Tegan and Tess worked well together in attack, converting plenty of opportunities with some excellent shooting.
While the result did not go Rennie’s way, there were plenty of positives to take from the match.
As the team heads into the bye and prepares for the final five rounds of the season, the focus will be on putting together four consistent quarters and building on the strong passages of play shown.

After a great training session on Thursday night, the girls went into the game feeling confident in their game plan. The shooters, Ava, Maisie and Chelsea, worked very hard to keep a strong lead throughout the entire game and moved in the ring effortlessly. Midcourters Zali, Dakota and Carla drove strongly to the ball, creating lots of opportunities for the shooters. They also put great pressure on the ball when it was needed.
