A foggy start turned into a fresh but decent winter’s day as the Hoppers hosted Jerilderie last Saturday in a mixed day on the board for Rennie across the park.
The Demons blew the game apart in the first term kicking eight goals after Rennie had got on the board early.
Jerilderie were just too quick with quality run and ball movement with the Hoppers powerless to stop the onslaught.
This continued early into the second term and the Hoppers were over 10 goals down until they were able to wrestle some ascendancy around the stoppages through Fountain and Ryan with Bruce moving about the forward line to create havoc and have four by half time.
Rennie stuck fat in term three and the game continued at a competitive nature with the difference being the final kick into the Demon forward line being cleaner.
Boyd Preston made the step up to senior footy and looked comfortable out on his wing and great to see Rudi Vodusek playing his first senior game with a fine mark late in the match.
Comfortable win to a classy looking Demon outfit. Bruce ended with 4 goals.
Getting quality senior minutes into Bruce, the continued development of Jones and Birks and the sensational year of Bruce with 34 goals year to date.
The next best for the season at the Hoppers on eight, and he has kicked over 40 per cent of his team’s goals this year are providing the base for a promising 2026.
Awards: Premix King - Denver Bruce, Lake Mulwala Bakery - Boyd Preston and Yarrawonga Hotel - Rudi Vodusek.
Reserves
Rennie 11.8.74 def Jerilderie 2.7.19.
The two’s won their fourth game in a row and have snuck into the eight with a 55-point victory.
This was a really even performance after a slow start where Jerilderie grabbed the early lead.
But four multiple goalkickers with Ferguson, Nish, Danielson and Judd all snagging two each, McBurnie and McErvale-Busch holding down the key defensive posts and the big booming boot of True opening up the game from half back saw the Hoppers take advantage in term two and rolled on from there.
Nick Davis also got amongst the goals and Brogan was quick and efficient on his wing. Strong team effort but some more mountains to climb over the last three weeks.
Goals: J. Ferguson 2, J. Judd. 2, J. Danielson 2, A. Nish 2, R. Trinder James, N. Davis, M. Paine.
Best: T. True, J. Danielson, J. Judd, A. Nish, J. McBurnie, J. Mcervale Busch.

Fourths
Rennie 15.4.94 def Jerilderie 3.1.19.
The little Hoppers came against a team on equal wins but were able to blow them away winning all four quarters and getting up by 75 points.
Again many goal scorers with True 4, Withers and Crawford 3 and Bott 2 scoring multiples.
Strawhorn has settled into key back beautifully, Giblett is a massive competitor, and Taylor Lewis is beginning to find his way.
The Hoppers are just out of the eight and need to win two more to ensure a finals gig.
Brilliant to see all the youngsters enjoying the Junior Ball.

A Grade

This weekends game was a great one for the Rennie A Graders. With coach Kayla away, Brooke McDougall stepped up from her new sideline position to coach the girls.
The club saw Laynee Rhodes play her 50th senior game for the club, and what a show stopper she had.
Olivia Lewis made her debut playing over three quarters in the defensive circle with best on court Jennika Parker.
Well done Liv on an exceptional game and making the most of the opportunity given.
Paula Mifka and Mabel Cope proved that an age gap is literally just a number, and demonstrated skill and accuracy in the goal ring.
The A Grade would also like to send their well wishes to the young-gun Jerilderie player who suffered an injury late in the last quarter.
The Hoppers wish you a speedy recovery and to be back on the court again soon.

Under 17s
Rennie 35 def by Jerilderie 42.
Not the outcome the Under 17s were hoping for in a top four ladder showdown against Jerilderie.
Jazzy Johnson played the game of the season in the ring, taking everything from training and applying it to the game.
Charlotte Burrows was consistent in her goals and worked tirelessly to gain any possession she could.
Jasi Lewis and Mia Brogan made the Jerilderie mid-courters work for the ball and to gain space, and proved why fitness is so important.
Olivia Lewis is showing that she is a jack of all trades, especially when given a run in the midcourt.

Under 15s

The Under 15 girls had a close game this week though unfortunately Jerilderie’s accuracy within the ring was unbeatable.
The girls worked hard on their forward drives struggling to stop the overhead passes resulting in some loopy passes.
The defence shined, moving well to stop the quick shooters blocking lots of drives.
The Hoppers worked on lots of talking and encouragement.
The girls fought hard but in the end it wasn’t their day.

Under 13s
Rennie 19 def Jerilderie 16.
After a week off from the league bye and a cold morning, the young Hopper girls started slow and took a while to get going.
The girls still worked tirelessly and never dropped their heads and it paid off, to take the lead for the first time and the win in the last quarter.
There was lots of rotations to try some new combinations, and the girls were great going into positions that might not be their normal spots.
The Under 13s will aim to work on things this week for the girls to improve on ahead of the last away game against Deni.
