It was a magic day at the home of football as the Hoppers hosted Katamatite in the final home and away round for season 2023.
Super game early as both teams were hot and in a free-flowing game both teams kicked 5 goals straight in the first team.
For Rennie, Fountain was awesome, well supported by coach Haley and up forward Strawhorn was on the end of some great work snagging 3 big ones.
It turned around in the second term as the visiting Tigers continued to run, carry and find space for their forward to work into which saw them kick 8 goals and take a 38-point lead at the long break.
Retiring coach Haley implored his team to have a fair crack in the second half and to their credit the Hoppers responded with the ultimate difference at full time being 41 points.
Strawhorn kicked 5 goals and Clarke kicked 2 gems for the game.
Fountain was sublime all day, and Dom McInness, the rubber man who keeps on getting knocked over bounces back up, taking great defensive marks whilst taking on the opposition best forward all this at 17 years of age.
The Hoppers have ended 10th with 6 wins and finishing 4 points outside finals.
Award winners: Best Players: Jarryd Fountain and Chase Strawhorn.
Award winners sponsored by Woods Bus Lines: 1. Dom McInness and 2. Darrin Clarke.

The Magoos started slowly into a slight breeze and were a goal down at the first break.
Term 2 saw poor kicking being poor footy as 2 goals 8 behinds for the term where Katty scored goals on their only 2 forward forays saw Rennie 3 points up at the long break.
Coach Nish wasn’t happy and reminded everyone that he had many more players than spots for next week’s elimination final and the Hoppers began to lift.
Half 2 saw 9 goals to none as Rennie ran away to win by 60 points. Trinder-James kicked 4, Oughton 3 and Wolfe, yes Wolfe kicked 2 goals.

The Hoppers had a must win game to make finals but fell short to go down by 58 points. Rennie were great in the first half and were down by 3 points at the long break.
In the second half class began to prevail as the Tigers had more numbers at the contest and were able to win the big moments.
Amongst all this, Xav Martin was brilliant, Chops Lonergan hunted the ball all day, Tyler Clarkson showed the benefits of having subbed a couple of times in the seniors and big TJ has come a huge way this year outpointing a quality opponent.

A beautiful sunny winter day greeted the young Hoppers for the last game of the home and away season for 2023. It was a slow start for the kids with Katty kicking the first 2 goals of the game and looking dangerous, but the Hoppers found their feet late in the first with Charlie snagging one and Connor kicking his first 2 of 6 for the game.
The second quarter saw the Hoppers come out firing and determined to make up for the quiet start.
Katty kept the game physical and kept up the pressure but the young guns Aiden and Finn brought plenty of run out of the middle with Rennie kicking 3 and great pressure down back from Sienna keeping Katty goalless for the quarter.
The second half saw the Hoppers really settle in and produce some great passages of play.
Big Kasey in the ruck was winning the tap all day and Fraser and Aiden H kept the ball moving in the right direction.
The last quarter sealed the deal for the Hopper boys and girls. Eliott was a driving force forward and kept the momentum up until the final siren for the Hoppers to come away with the win.
Looking forward to seeing these youngsters turn one on in their first final next weekend having finished 7th with 8 wins, the scribe knows they will make the club proud.
Goals: C. Strawhorn 6, A. Lawless 2, C. Bourke 2.

Last game of the season for the youngest Hopper swarm and they were at it again. Buzzing around, looking for their mates and having a great time. Brilliant job by Neal Hemphill, Kayla and Gareth Oughton who have moulded this young group and to the parents and supporters who are out there early on a Saturday watching these future stars.
