James was given some of the toughest roles in the 2024 AFL Grand Final last Saturday, tagging Brisbane guns Dayne Zorko and Hugh McCluggage.
Prue who travelled down to Melbourne from Yarrawonga to be a part of the whole weekend, said to be part of Grand Final day and all that surrounds it is a special experience.
“The parade on the Friday and the pre-game entertainment, it was all fantastic especially after not being able to be a part of it with James in 2021 (when James was playing for Melbourne and the grand final was held in Perth),” Prue said.
“It wasn’t the result we wanted but we regroup and go again.
“James himself had a tagging role on (Dayne) Zorko then moved to (Hugh) McCluggage so he had a few tough roles to play.
“Regardless of the result, we are so proud of him and the team as a whole for what they have achieved this year.
“The players were disappointed after the game, but we move on. They are a great group of players.
“Everyone within the club from the players and staff, to the fans and players families are looking forward to 2025 and are ready to go again.”
This year’s grand final is the second that James has been involved in with the AFL, as he was named medical sub for the Melbourne Demons in 2021 with the Demons claiming the premiership and James receiving a medal although not taking to the field.
This year, Corowa product and Swans Coach John Longmire named James in the starting 22, placing him on 277 gamer Zorko in the first half who he matched up well with before being moved on to the ever dangerous McCluggage.
Unfortunately, the result did not go the Swans way with the Lions kicking away in the second quarter to take a 46-point lead into half time with the Lions eventually claiming the premiership by 60 points with James finishing the game with 13 disposals, 10 kicks, 5 marks and 3 handballs.
