Rams go down in Friday night thriller
Yarrawonga Mulwala Rams 7/124 def by Benalla Bushrangers 5/125.
The Yarrawonga Mulwala Rams went down gallantly in a hotly contested night match against Benalla Bushrangers Red at the Victoria Park No. 2 oval.
The Rams were successful in winning the bat flip once again and elected to bat first on the perfectly presented Vic Park wicket.
Finn Mitchell and Charlie Carlyle started proceedings and were looking quite settled at the crease before a flurry of mix ups between the wickets saw three of the Rams batsmen run out in the space of 15 runs being added to the score.
A solid partnership between Jordan Knight and Eamon Pickering saw the runs begin to flow before Pickering was dismissed for 16.
George Kennedy played some nice strokes before retiring not out.
Zaine Rickhuss arrived at the crease and was quick to get his eye in, playing some powerful strokes before being dismissed for a well-made 19.
Knight returned to the crease to see out the innings, finishing 18 not out.
The Rams had compiled a competitive score of 7/124 off their allocated 20 overs.
The Rams were keen to get some early wickets and Lachie Brown delivered, taking 2 wickets in his first over.
The Rams bowlers were bowling quite tidily, forcing the Benalla Bushrangers batsmen to play some risky shots, which were landing just out of reach for the Rams fielders.
Scores were even at the halfway mark of the Benalla Bushrangers’ innings, before Zaine Rickhuss, Jordan Knight and Hugo Bott each picked up a wicket to swing the match back in favour of the Rams.
Needing to restrict the Benalla batsman, the match entered the final over with both teams eyeing victory.
All players were desperate to deliver for their team, and on the final ball the Benalla Bushrangers secured victory.
It was an entertaining game and the Rams players should be proud of their efforts.
The boys will be looking to continue to improve this week. They will be looking forward to the next match against Benalla Bushrangers Green next Saturday at home.
