More than 200 competitors are expected to play across the three days of action, with the doubles tournament occurring on Saturday, April 4, singles and veterans’ doubles on Sunday, April 5, and the mixed doubles on Monday, April 6.
The number of competitors mirrors last year’s tournament, which the club is pleased with considering current logistical challenges such as the rise in fuel costs.
Many players are travelling to Kyabram from parts of Melbourne and Bendigo, some that have attended annually for 20 years, and others who first featured as juniors and still compete into their early 30s.
While the event is predominantly an opportunity for tennis enthusiasts from elsewhere to enjoy the local scene over Easter, with live music on Saturday night performed by a local artist and a major raffle on Sunday night, players are also incentivised with prizes.
The open grade singles and doubles tournament will each have a cash prize, with the winners receiving $100 and runners-up $50, while the winners of the other section across the tournament will be presented with a trophy.
The smorgasbord of on- and off-court offerings is made possible by a collective town effort, with the Kyabram Club and Hurley's Bar & Bistro sponsoring, while Campaspe Shire Council, Goulburn-Murray Water and Bendigo Bank are also supporting the event.
“Any sporting event, whether it be tennis, cricket, football, anything that comes into the town, gets supported with a lot of the businesses in and around Kyabram that actually support us and do a lot behind the scenes, especially within the club,” KLTC president Greg Tarrant said.
“A lot of them all work and donate their time back instead of playing the tennis, which is a fairly big commitment from individuals.”
Players interesting in signing up for the tournament can do so via the Kyabram Lawn Tennis Club website by filling out the registration form on the Easter tournament page.
Entries are being taken right up until the tournament start, and any questions about the form can be directed to Tarrant on 0438 257 916.
