Past Goulburn Valley junior and senior singles champion Marg Haw delivered a brilliant hat-trick in Saturday’s penultimate round of GMLTA tennis.

An integral member of a strong Section 3 Redbacks ladies’ quartet, Haw recorded three 8/0s in what can only be described as a perfect score sheet for the tennis legend.
Central Umpire cannot remember the last time such an impressive result was recorded by a Goulburn Murray Lawn tennis player, and it may be quite a while before it happens again.
The Section 3 Redbacks recorded another strong win, downing Kialla 9 sets/84 games to 4 sets/52 games to cement first place on the ladder.
The Redbacks men will have to do some homework coming into the finals to support their ladies’ team, as they only came home with two wins in the afternoon.
Fortunately, James Sheppard provided the grunt to record an 8/4 win with Blake McMeekin and an impressive 8/2 win with Darren Woodcock.
Haw’s performance was certainly supported by Susie Bennett, Lauren Bennett and Sonya McCraw with the Kyabram ladies’ combination conceding only nine games out of a possible 32.
KLTC’s Section 3 Bombers team has unfortunately now bowed out of the final race after putting in a gutsy effort against a classy Nathalia outfit.
The Bombers went down 6 sets/68 games to Nathalia 7 sets/72 games.
Highlights of the match were Will Worsfold’s continued great form, taking his singles 6/3, along with classy veteran George Brega teaming up with captain Zane Sutton to win their doubles impressively 8/1.
In the ladies’, Claire Mawley and young Meg McConnell produced an outstanding 8/0 with Alyssa Christoe and Aleisha Cunningham holding off a determined Nathalia pair 8/5.
Going into the mixed with high expectations, the Bombers could not produce the impressive mixed results of the past couple of weeks.
Saturday’s loss has the Bombers sitting in fifth place.
Although disappointed they will not be a part of the finals action, this team has been recognized as the big improver throughout the competition.
In Section 2, Kyabram’s top team recorded another dominant scoreline, defeating Kialla Park Old Students 9 sets/75 games to 2 sets/52 games.
The Kyabram men were successful throughout the afternoon, not dropping a set. In the men’s singles, Regan Moore and Mitch Cox outclassed their opponents, winning 6/2 and 6/3, respectively.
In the men’s doubles, Moore and Cox teamed up with the ever-reliable Greg Tarrant, taking both doubles 8/5 and 8/4.
The KLTC ladies also recorded some excellent wins, with Jade Christoe finally taking her marathon singles 6/5, with young up-and-comer Miley Morris winning her singles 6/4.
KLTC’s flagship team finished off the day with three mixed wins, with Mitch Cox and Miley Morris recording an impressive 8/1.
Kyabram’s number-one team is now sitting third on the ladder, with the possibility of falling into second place after next week’s last round, and should be feeling quietly confident about its finals chances.
• KLTC staged a successful garage sale last Sunday in what has been described as a “fantastic fundraiser” for the club.
A big shout out to our club’s five members who donated their time and effort to make this event such a success.
A big mention also to club president Greg Tarrant and Kyabram Removals for their generosity in making this fundraiser such a huge success.
