After round six action at the Moama Sporting Complex last Wednesday, three sides — Loners, DJB and Billy Goats! — have confirmed a finals berth, while Earth Wind & Fire is in the box seat for the final place, needing only to defeat winless Troublemakers in the last round to secure its spot.
Dragons, Old Wise & Handsome and The Riv must each hope for an upset in that fixture to keep their own chances alive.
Earth Wind & Fire almost got the job done last week, pushing unbeaten leaders Loners to the limit in their match-up.
Despite employing a substitute, EWF took both doubles matches to go into the final singles block tied 4-4.
Loners were able to dig deep and take two of the remaining three singles to escape 6-5 and with their perfect record intact.
Old Wise & Handsome had the opportunity to take fourth spot heading into the final round, but Billy Goats! proved too strong, prevailing 7-4.
The majority of the crucial rubbers, including both doubles, went the Goats’ way as they locked in their finals place.
DJB took on Troublemakers, also escaping with a useful 7-4 win.
The result almost guarantees DJB a top-two finish and keeps the door open for the minor premiership should Loners falter.
The once winless Riv strung together successive wins to keep a faint hope of finals alive.
The match against Dragons came down to the wire, but two of the final three singles was enough for a 6-5 Riv victory.
A less than stellar game difference means a near impossible collection of results is the only chance for The Riv to advance, while Dragons and OWH have more realistic hopes if Troublemakers score the upset over EWF.
