Moore is a 2 time A Grade premiership player including being a vital component in the YMCC inaugural premiership on 2011/2012 scoring 13 runs in a 21-run partnership with Michael Kerr and taking the first catch of the Grand Final in a 4 wicket win against City Colts.
Rovers United Bruck won the toss and surprisingly sent the YMCC Lakers in to bat.
Openers Josh Lawrence and Ben Irvine set the platform with a 51-run stand with Irvine scoring 24 and Lawrence 22.
Irvine had nine scoring shots with 5 boundaries and 4 singles.
A middle order lapse saw the YMCC fall to 3 for 57 before Lawrence and Harry Wheeler settled the ship and pushed the score to 97 before Lawrence was out for 49 in the 28th over.
100 game player Zach Moore joined Wheeler and played smart cricket punishing the loose ball with intent.
A valuable 28 run partnership saw the Lakers to 125 before Moore was dismissed for 16.
Wheeler was the constant for the YMCC and finished the 40 over innings with 36 not out in a total of 8 for 154.
After the tea interval, the YMCC took to the bowling crease and in the second over Rory Bartlett had the first wicket of McCarthy bowled.
And three overs later had fellow opener Dale out bowled as well finishing with 2 for 33 off 8 overs.
Caleb Mitchell claimed his A Grade debut wicket removing former RUB Captain Schonafinger for 0.
Matt McCabe was able to remove Captain Paddy McNamara for 9 and then Harry Wheeler showed great athleticism to have veteran Jeremy Wilson caught and bowled to a superb catch.
At 5 for 40, the YMCC were in total control, but a rear-guard action saw the Rover United Bruck side fight back to score 101 runs for the remaining five wickets off the final 19 overs.
However, it was the tight bowling from Angus McMillan 2 for 20 off 8 overs; Caleb Mitchell 1 for 26 off 8 overs and Matt McCabe 1 for 22 off 8 overs and Wheeler finishing with 2 for 18 from 4 overs which ensured the YMCC a 13-run victory.
Next Saturday sees the YMCC take on the Benalla Bushrangers at the Stan Hargreaves Oval in Yarrawonga from 1pm.
Make sure you get down to the venue and cheer on the local talent on the expanses of their home ground with drinks available.
B Grade
B Grade hosted Rutherglen United at Lonsdale Reserve, Mulwala on Saturday in perfect cricket conditions. The Lakers won the toss and elected to bowl.
The Lakers bowlers were pitching too short early and let Rutherglen get away to a good start.
Wil Turnell made the initial breakthrough forcing the batsman into a false shot and being well caught by Geoff Montgomery at cover-point.
Rutherglen then put on a 50-run stand for the second wicket before a wide throw was backed up well by Jett Peters and upon returning the ball made an excellent direct hit run-out.
This gave the Lakers some great motivation and the momentum swung back the Lakers way.
Ollie Cope took the next two wickets and the Lakers were back in the game Rutherglen 4/78.
Then in combination Peters and Cope put great pressure on the Rutherglen bats, picking up three more wickets between them and suddenly Rutherglen was 7/94.
Harry Barker’s second spell taking over from Cope also yielded much needed wickets.
Wicket takers for the day were Will Turnell with 1/19, Harry Barker 2/25, Jet Peters 2/8 from 6 overs, Ollie Cope 3/18 from 5 overs and Dylan Beavis taking the last wicket to have figures of 1/0. Rutherglen all out for 116.
The Lakers innings got off to a steady start with Justin O’Brien and Reece Norman opening. With Norman applying himself well to the unfamiliar opening position the pair put on a 32-run stand for the opening wicket.
But with the dismissal of Norman the wickets fell at a steady rate, O’Brien out for 25, Cope for 3, Montgomery for 4 and Tom Ryan for 0 the Lakers were in trouble at 5/43.
Harry Barker and Jett Peters then consolidated and managed to put together a terrific unbeaten 62 run partnership.
The pair kept out the good balls, despatched the loose ones and ran extremely well between the wickets.
A great effort by two of the young brigade. Although their efforts to resurrect the innings didn’t quite succeed as the Lakers fell 12 runs short of victory at the end of the allotted overs.
Peters finishing off, individually, a great day of cricket with 30no to top score and Harry Barker making his highest B Grade score of 21no.
Although not coming away with the win there was certainly some positives to take from the match. B Grade will face Benalla Bushrangers at Benalla in the last match before the Christmas break.
C Grade
The Yarrawonga Mulwala C Grade have scored a 31-run victory over Ovens Valley at Bright Recreation Reserve.
The win was largely built around 53 runs and 4 wickets to Josh Bozzola.
The YMCC were able to bat for 34 overs and score 107 runs around Bozzola with Chris Kennedy adding 20 runs and Peter Brear 15 runs. While with the ball Bozzola took 4 for 19 off 7.2 overs and was partnered with Ted Graham 3 for 14 off 8 overs and Austin Willett 2 for 19 off 6 overs.
The C Grade now have an extended Christmas/ New Year break before returning on Saturday, January 22 for a clash with Beechworth at Mayday Hills in Beechworth.
Under 14s
Day 2 saw the Under 14 Lakers take to the field against Rovers United Bruck CC Green to defend a total of 135.
A good opening to the bowling saw Van Kreeck take a wicket in the 6th over.
The combination of Nate Sheridan and Nate Kreeck saw the run rate slow after the 10th over.
Tight wicket keeping by Jack Van Den Bosch was a highlight in the first 20 overs.
At the break the match was evenly poised with Rovers having a slight edge in the run rate required.
After the break the Rovers increased their runs per over and the match started slipping away from the Lakers.
The final 10 overs saw the Lakers bowlers take 5 wickets.
Jack Van Den Bosch’s first wicket for the year was with a dead straight delivery to clip the off-side bail.
Will Murphy then rattled the middle stump out of the ground for his first wicket of the day.
Nate Kreeck took a wicket with a solid catch by Nate Sheridan. Ben Coffey also took his first wicket of the year with an LBW.
Jake Walker took the first wicket of his Lakers career with a great catch behind by Jace Gove.
Rovers overtook the Lakers total in the 33 over and ended up 6/199 with 1 wicket to spare.
A real improvement in the fielding for the full 40 overs was a highlight of the day.
The team encouragement in the field was also very pleasing to see.
