After two years of no finals football or netball the entire Mulwala Football Netball Club is brimming with excitement with numerous football and netball teams competing.
A home Semi-Final on Sunday, September 4 will undoubtedly showcase the great facilities on offer at Mulwala and is sure to draw a big crowd of loyal supporters keen to cheer on any Mulwala teams playing on the day.
The Mulwala Seniors travelled to Congupna on the weekend desperate to get the win to maintain their top two position on the ladder ensuring they have the double chance and a week’s rest in the first round of finals.
Congupna however are an improving team and looking to play finals themselves were quick off the mark and troubling the Mulwala backline.
Congupna had a couple of quick goals before Cameron Magher started to set the Mulwala forward line on fire with some strong marks and great conversion giving Mulwala a slender lead at quarter time.
The ruck/rover combination of Jamie Smith and Matt Gorman started to work their magic through the middle of the ground in the second quarter and a great running goal from Lewis Taylor had Mulwala getting on top of their opposition.
A three goal to one second term saw Mulwala extend their quarter time lead out to 19 points as the backline trio of James Wilson, Lachlan Rouell and Dylan McNamara were beginning to stifle the Congupna forwards.
A tight second half ensued and some clever goals from the Mulwala small forwards in Adam Rouel and Thomas Wilson allowed Mulwala to hold their lead throughout and come away with the win ensuring their second place on the ladder to finish the year.
Reserves
Congupna 1.4.10 defeated by Mulwala 11.7.73.
The Mulwala Reserves came up against a strong Congupna team that were also in finals contention and very quickly put them on the back foot as Charley McKenna and Wally Thomson were on fire in the forward line.
Mulwala’s midfield rotations exerted their strength throughout the game as Matt McLachlan, Joseph Bland, Flynn Fletcher, Charley and Wally all ran amok through the centre of the ground and floating forward as they all were able to capitalize on their forward thrusts.
Nathan Beasley, Seb Hargraeves and Cam Carling held the backline together all day as usual as Mulwala ran away with a convincing ten goal win.
The team is really starting to gel together well and will be looking forward to heading back to Congupna in an elimination final on Sunday.
If they play anywhere near their best, they will go along way in September.

Thirds
Congupna 0.4.4 defeated by Mulwala 14.6.90.
After a tough year the Thirds were coming up against another team not competing in finals and were looking for a win to further enhance their improvement throughout the year.
Jeremy Bramich and Jaxen Wheeler were on fire in the forward line early and Captain and recent Best and Fairest winner Jett Peters was influencing the game in his usual way.
The second quarter saw Riley Mitchell and Harrison Lappin utilize their accuracy in front of goal to put Mulwala further in front and the whole team was starting to play with the freedom and swift ball movement that has kept them in touch with the top teams through the year.
Ethan Lay was brilliant all day around the ground and the improvement in his game during the year has been an exciting prospect for Coach House to observe.
Dillon Kirchen, Ben Howell and Harry Barker were great all day and the fourteen-goal victory was celebrated like a finals win as the boys sung the club song with vigor.
The improvement in the thirds team throughout the year has been super impressive and their commitment to training and following the coach’s instructions is something they should all be proud of.

Fourths
The Under 14s had a week off with Congupna not fielding a team and will have another week off after finishing on top of the ladder leading into the finals.
The stingiest backline in the league led by Captain Zach Wheeler, the enforcer Maiko Leith and Jace Gove have been well assisted all year by the glove Archie Purtle, Sam Taylor and Kade Sullivan ensuring that they are truly the back bone of the team.
Leading Goalkicker and current Best and Fairest Jai Sneddon along with forward assistants Tige Sanderson, Sonny O’Bryan, Henry Donovan and Rhys Burgess will be equally as important as the ruck duo of Luke Abikhair and Charlie Drake who will be excited by the prospect of a fit Baxter Donovan coming back to assist in the middle.
Last year’s Best and Fairest Winner Oliver Watson will be pivotal to the team’s success and along with the little bull Nash McNamara and the blistering speed of Van Kreeck they will ensure that many centre clearances are won by Mulwala during the finals series.
The outside run of Beau Sissons, Oliver Nagle and Axel Saunders will ensure that Mulwala will always be attacking the football and given the entire Under 14s team have a strong teamwork ethic and Coach Kreeck has them doing all the small things that go along way towards finals glory.
