Mulwala’s Season Comes to an End

Mulwala 4.5 (29) def by Deniliquin Rams 12.11 (83)

Mulwala’s season came to an end on Sunday afternoon at Cobram, going down to a strong Deniliquin Rams outfit by 54 points in the semi-final.

The Rams came out firing from the opening bounce, putting Mulwala under pressure early and taking control of the contest.

Mulwala found themselves on the back foot for much of the afternoon as Deniliquin’s pressure and intensity proved difficult to match.

Despite the result, the Mulwala boys continued to fight the game out and showed plenty of character, never giving up and continuing to compete right through until the final siren.

Best players for Mulwala were Maiko Leith, Harley Cooper, Fletcher Woodhead, Jack Butler and Nate Leith, who all worked hard throughout a tough afternoon.

While the disappointment of a semi-final loss will hurt, there is plenty for the club to be proud of after what has been a strong and competitive season.

As the season comes to an end, a huge thank you goes to all the players for their commitment, effort and determination throughout the year.

A special thank you also goes to the parents and families for their ongoing support, whether it was getting the boys to training and games, supporting from the sidelines or helping the club behind the scenes.

Best: Steph Hammond, Grace Thomson, Georgie Hemphill

In windy and blustery conditions, the Mulwala Lions came up against a tough Nathalia lineup.

The Purps took charge in the first quarter, leading by a dominant 12-goal margin.

The next three quarters saw the Lions do everything in their power to bring the margin back and remain in the contest for the rest of the game, but unfortunately, the dominant first quarter made the task too difficult.

The Lions never gave up, stayed composed as a team, and whatever combination was thrown out on court stepped up to the challenge, but unfortunately, they finished with an 18-goal defeat.

The Lions now look ahead to the preliminary final against Tongala, knowing they need to bring their best game forward in these crucial finals moments.

Steph Hammond was strong throughout the match, taking numerous hits, keeping composed and shooting well for the Lions.

Grace Thomson was solid in wing attack, providing some great feeds into the ring.

Georgie Hemphill never gave up, giving the Lions a fourth-quarter effort in the different positions she was given.

B Grade

Mulwala 56 def by Cobram 50

The Lions are through to another week of finals after a fantastic 56–50 win over Cobram in Sunday’s semi-final.

After a solid week of training, the girls came into the game excited, hungry and admittedly a little nervous, but they came out firing from the very first whistle and continued to work hard right through to the final whistle.

Every member of the team played their role, hit the goals they had set for themselves and, most importantly, backed one another all game.

It was arguably their best team game yet, with everyone contributing and working together when it mattered most.

Despite the pressure and intensity of a finals game, the girls remained cool, calm and collected.

Their ability to maintain composure under pressure was a huge factor in getting them across the line and securing another week of finals netball.

And they are not done yet. There is plenty more this group has to give, and the excitement continues as they take on another tough challenge next weekend against Moama in Finley.
