After a strong game against tough opposition the week before Mulwala knew they would be challenged again playing Congupna who had recruited well in the off season after a strong 2022.
In an even first half Mulwala were holding slender leads into both quarter and half time thanks to the strong work of Matt Gorman and Jackson Gash through the middle of the ground and the tough defensive efforts of Harrison Meade and James Wilson.
As the game entered the second half and the legs got wet and weary, the younger Mulwala brigade led by Oscar Elliott and Charley McKenna began to shine as Mulwala took control of the game extending their lead into 3 quarter time after a strong 4 goal to 2 quarter.
The class of Mulwala in the final quarter put Congupna to the sword with goals to Jack Sutherland and Jackson Meade as the entire team seemed to rise up against the challenge and make the most of every opportunity that presented.
Coach Rohan Davies after the victory was impressed with how the team had taken the hits and kept presenting throughout the day to notch another great win against quality opposition.
Back home again this week against Barooga so it would be great to see all the fantastic supporters down cheering on the Lions.
Reserves
Mulwala 8.7.55 defeated by Congupna 8.8.56.
Mulwala started the game well through some great forward marking and accurate kicking from Jyda House and some strong running work from the Psaltaris boys.
Around the finish of the first quarter the heavens opened with massive hail stones pelting the players and almost bringing the game to a halt.
In true Ultimate Ressies style the game was back on straight after quarter time which saw the players competing with each other and also a blanket of ice blocks still covering the ground.
Nathan Beasley and Sam Davies were brilliant down back in the conditions and Addi Psaltaris, Jack MacDermid and Damian Cook were good all game around the middle of the ground.
The conditions made the game extremely close towards the end and a nail-biting finish saw Mulwala go down by a solitary point in what was a fantastic match by both teams.

Fourths
Mulwala 21.24.150 defeated Congupna 0.1.1
After a tough game the week before the young Lion Cubs were super excited to be back at their home ground. It is fantastic that Congupna have this year been able to field a side in the Fourths and their organization should be congratulated on making this happen for the youth of their club.
The Mulwala juniors didn’t take it easy on them early though and began kicking goal after goal from the start of the game.
Archie Purtle and Maiko Leith were controlling all the ball off half back and through the middle of ground and Tige Sanderson and Sonny O’Bryan were capitalizing up forward.
The unselfish football throughout the game allowing young players like Ben Ferguson, Benji Watson and Lachlan Brown to get some shots on goal was impressive from the older players and the team went on to score a massive victory.
