A first versus second blockbuster was expected at Congupna and the first quarter didn’t disappoint.
Thomas Wilson playing in his 100th senior match got Mulwala on the scoreboard as Jackson Gash and Zach Cuppins were working hard through the midfield.
Nathan McNair showed why he will be close to Mulwala’s most important recruit this season as he ran hard at the ball in straight lines all day and dared anyone to get in his way.
One point separated the teams at half time as the scores were low and the game was played hard and tight as neither team were able to shake their opposition.
The game opened up more in the third quarter as the Mulwala forwards were getting on top of their opponents and Owen was able to give the midfield first usage from the ruck contests.
Jack Sutherland kicked a couple of valuable goals and the mids were floating forward to good avail keeping Mulwala a couple of goals up leading into the last quarter.
A tight contest loomed until Harley Middleton blew the game open with the first 3 goals of the last quarter from some good midfield work of Zach Scott and Oscar Elliott and suddenly it was Mulwala by how much.
An eight goal to one last quarter had the strong Mulwala crowd up and about but the loudest cheers came when the Thirds sub Ollie Watson ran on the ground whom at 14 years old became the youngest sub to debut for Mulwala since its inception.
Fitting that Ollie debuted the day Thomas Wilson played his 100th as Tom also played all his juniors at Mulwala and debuted in the seniors at a similar age going on to win multiple Best & Fairest trophies and a premiership medal to be a true Mulwala champion that can also sing and dance. Ladies Day at Lonsdale Reserve this week when the Lions are home to Tongala in what is always a fantastic day so if you haven’t got your tickets yet ladies then chat to Carz before they sell out.

Reserves
Congupna 9.4.58 def by Mulwala 10.15.75.
Challenging an undefeated Congupna team that beat them by 1 point earlier in the year was motivation enough for the Reserves team.
Charley McKenna proved he doesn’t belong in the midday game and Sean Robinson proved his class around goals and in the midfield when the game needed to be won.
Josh Ednie played a ripping game in defense shutting down Congupna’s dangerous forwards and Kyle Abikhair and Connor Phibbs provided plenty of run throughout the day.
Inaccurate kicking by Mulwala kept Congupna in the game but Mul had no passengers as every player did their part towards winning the game coming away with a nice 3 goal win.
Goals: Sean Robinson 4, Charley McKenna 3, Cameron Nye 2, Jett Peters 1.
Best: Charley McKenna, Sean Robinson, Josh Ednie, Joseph Bland, Kyle Abikhair, Connor Phibbs.
Thirds
Congupna 1.4.10 def by Mulwala 20.8.128.
The Thirds are stringing some great games together and ran away with another strong victory against Congupna. Coach House has them all gelling well together and their teamwork and commitment to help each other out is a credit to them all.
Ollie Watson played arguably his best game for the year and Josh Eder continued to play the half back role to perfection again.
Hunter Looby showed glimpses of brilliance and Jacko Wheeler was again prolific up forward.
A very convincing 100-point win and the boys will be looking forward to a tougher home game next week.
Goals: J. Wheeler 5, L. Saunders 3, J. Sneddon 3, M. Appleby 2, B. Donovan 1, O. Nagle 1, B. Johnson 1, M. O'Bryan 1, B. Sissons 1, R. Mitchell 1.

Fourths
Congupna 1.2.8 def by Mulwala 17.19.121.
The young cubs once again found themselves in the enviable position of being the much stronger team and put the game out of reach for Congupna in the first quarter.
All the usual suspects in Van, Maiko, Archie and Axel were gathering possessions at will and quite a few of the younger boys got their hands on some great footy.
Archer Kirchen and Tom Taylor got some great midfield time and used the ball well going forward and Alex Richardson and Sonny O’Bryan were providing great targets in the forward line.
The crowd erupted when young Mitch Purtle and Beau Taylor ran on the ground and the forward line was cleared out to let the future champions do their thing as they turned a few opponents inside out and upside down.
Goals: V. Kreeck 6, S. O’Bryan 3, A. Richardson 2, T. Taylor 1, B. Watson 1, H. Donovan 1, T. Sanderson 1, A. Kirchen 1.
Best: V. Kreeck, A. Purtle, M. Leith, A. Kirchen, T. Taylor, A. Richardson.
