Round 3 versus Congupna is always a great day on the calendar for Mulwala as it showcases the Lions great ground and facilities to a large Good Friday audience.
This Easter did not disappoint either as Mulwala supporters young and old from far and wide came along to what is always a great spectacle of local football.
The Senior team led the way with a blistering 5 goal to 1 first quarter that enthralled the vocal crowd. Jamie was matched for height in the ruck, but his hard running and clever tap work was giving Mulwala first use of the footy and Matty, Gashy, Buttsy and Braddy were delivering into the forward line with precision making life easy for Robbo and Jack.
The second quarter saw Congupna claw back a few goals and the game was tightening up around the contest. Jimmy, Rooster and Pickle were stern in defense and Dizz was having his best game of the year nullifying the Congupna forwards and ensuring Mul kept the lead heading into half time.
The second half was a goal for goal contest and Mulwala was always able to hold onto a handy four-five goal lead. Louie put the clamps on Congupna’s best and Jamie having been brilliant around the ground in the ruck all day floated forward on numerous occasions and was able to finish off around goals.
A strong win by the boys and numerous smooth passages of play showed that the game plan set out by the coaches is starting to come into effect nicely as the season progresses.
A special thanks goes to Jetta Norrish who plays thirds, runs water and is always assisting with an array of voluntary duties throughout the day. The kid is an absolute ripper. Good on you mate, the club love your work.

Reserves
Mulwala 20.15.135 defeated Congupna 1.3.9.
The Reserves started on fire and continued to burn their Congupna opponents throughout the game. Andy was again good in the ruck giving Matty and Flynn some easy footy through the middle of the ground.
Charlie was as slick as Joey was brilliant all day and Congupna had no answers to Mulwala’s fast ball movement.
Aussie had his goal kicking boots on and was high fiving himself by the second half as the procession of goals became less exciting and more routine for the boys. Beaso even moved himself out of his usual defensive role and into the forward line to get in on the act.
Down by 20 goals the Congupna players were getting frustrated which led to numerous scuffles that excited the large crowd as much as the constant flow of Mulwala goals.
An overall great team effort and the boys should be happy with a 3 from 3 start to the season moving forward.
Goals: Joseph Bland 4, Austin Frauenfelder 4, Wally Thomson 4, Andrew Maskell – Dunstan 3, Henry Lonergan 1, Charley McKenna 1, Tanner Nyholm 1, Tom Dow 1, Daniel Hoskings 1.
Best: Tanner Nyholm, Wally Thomson, Joseph Bland, Tom Dow, Flynn Fletcher, Austin Frauenfelder.
Thirds
Mulwala 20.11.131 defeated Congupna 1.1.7.
With the Fourths not playing this week a couple of the cubs went up for a run in the Under 17s and what a week to do so.
With not many top age kids, the thirds have endured a couple of close losses but in front of the large Good Friday crowd their hard work from previous weeks paid off with a convincing 20 goal victory. Presuming it was going to be a bit closer the boys were very excited to get some early goals and they continued to share the ball amongst multiple goal kickers.
Captain Jett was fantastic again, Loch Harvey had a blinder and overall, every player performed their role and more to give themselves a much deserved four points.
A fantastic iPod shuffle night organized by Tess, Carz and Bree was enjoyed by all at the rooms last week and this week after playing at Barooga the Lions will be gathering at the Royal Mail Hotel in Mulwala so get there for the great food and cold drinks and be amongst the Pride of Lions.
