With the knowledge they could match it against a fellow top-four side, given the thrilling draw in round six against top-four side Tatura, the Lions were looking to make an even bigger statement against the undefeated Bears.
But unfortunately Shepparton was just too strong, handing Seymour a 41-61 defeat.
After an opening 14-8 quarter in favour of Shepparton, the Lions did well to claw back some of the deficit, heading into the half-time break just four goals in arrears, 22-26.
However, after the main break, the Bears proved too polished, pulling away to secure the 20-goal win and hand Seymour its second loss of the campaign.
Rosie O’Sullivan was the Lions’ best in the loss, playing a superb game at wing attack to feed the Seymour goalers, while Lucy Zotti and Ruby Martin was also influential for the Lions.
The loss has seen Seymour slip to a 4-2-1 record for the year, although it remains in fourth spot on the ladder, two points clear of Mooroopna and Echuca in fifth and sixth, respectively.
A week off with the interleague bye ensures the Lions have time to regroup, before a tantalising fourth vs fifth clash with the Cats in round eight.
In other results from the weekend, Shepparton Swans beat Shepparton United 53-47 to claim bragging rights in the local rivalry, Tatura edged out Rochester 49-43 at Tatura Park, while Euroa remained unbeaten at the top of the ladder following an 88-31 thumping of Benalla.
Echuca accounted for Mansfield with a comfortable 52-37 win in the High Country and Mooroopna made it two wins in a row following a 60-32 victory over Kyabram at Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
