Held at the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre in Bendigo, in early August, it was the first time the championships had been held in Central Victoria, which brings together the state’s best country swimmers in a great display of short-course swimming.
Hosted by Swimming Bendigo’s three home clubs, Bendigo Hawks Aquatic, Bendigo East and Kangaroo Flat, this prestigious two-day event saw 625 regional swimmers from 37 swimming clubs who travelled across the state to compete.

Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club proudly sent two rising stars to the Championships: 16-year-old Lara Angwin and 12-year-old Flynn Cox, both of whom earned their spots by qualifying for individual events.
With times set by Swimming Victoria, both swimmers competed in their respective age groups in multiple events.
Supported by Head Coach Lyndon Hart and Coach Jocelyn Cameron, Lara and Flynn both raced to a high standard, "showing great improvement and progress in their technique,” Coach Hart said.
Lara qualified and raced in four events, including the Women’s Open age 200m Backstroke. Her other events included the Girls 16/17 years 100m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley.
Swimming on her times, Lara swam beautifully and executed race details as directed by her coaches and should be incredibly proud of her achievements.

Swimming some impressive times, Flynn achieved personal best times in all three events, including dropping 2.30 seconds in his 100m Freestyle.
He continued his success by dropping 4.64 seconds in his 100m IM, where he came from the back of the field to win his heat in the final lap.
Both swimmers trained incredibly hard and consistently over the past months into the lead-up to the event and should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
