Fraser has also become the first 12 year old swimmer from the club to make four individual finals at this state event.
Not to be outdone the Boys 12 and Under relay team consisting of Alex Hawke, Fletcher Davies, Jackson Maxted and Fraser Nagle claimed bronze medals in the 4 x 50 Freestyle and 4 x 50m Medley relays.
Country Victoria’s best swimmers competed in the 2023 Victorian State Country Long Course Championships held in Wangaratta from January 21-23.
Among them were 21 competitors representing the Yarrawonga/Mulwala Swimming Club.
Individual swimmers were Lara Angwin, Finn Angwin, Emily Buerckner, Fletcher Davies, Chloe Herezo, Emily Judd, Jesse McDonald, Hugh Mullins, Fraser Nagle, Meriam Nelson, Nicole Shiels and Max Vodusek who competed in 24 individual events, 4 individual finals, placing inside the top 8 six times and achieving 19 personal best times.
Relay swimmers were Chelsea Carroll, Darcy Cox, Annabel Hart, Alex Hawke, Reegan Hawke, Ella Hollister, Lucy Judd, Jackson Maxted and Chloe Plevnik who along with the individual swimmers competed in 10 relays, achieving 9 best times.
Due to an unexpected weather event on the Sunday afternoon, the planned finals had to be suspended and were ran on Monday morning.
This meant that the last session on the Monday was timed finals meaning that the program went ahead with the fastest swimmers taking the medals and no finals. This produced some fantastic swimming from all the competitors.
At the conclusion of the weekend the Yarrawonga/Mulwala Swimming Club found itself ranked 16th in Country Victoria out of 37 competing swimming clubs.
Head Coach, Lyndon Hart said: “The results achieved were fantastic and a credit to the swimmers’ efforts they have displayed during training over the past nine months.
“It was great to have 2 past swimmers in Hugh Mullins and Nicole Shiels return to compete for the club.
“Imagine what these swimmers and the other 90 swimmers in the club could achieve if the Moira Shire had a vision and a plan to build an indoor pool in Yarrawonga.”
On behalf of the Yarrawonga Mulwala Swimming Club, Lyndon thanked Coach Kevin White for all his time and effort coaching the swimmers in the lead up and throughout the competition.
Lyndon also thanked the team managers – Paula Nagle and Alastair Angwin and the parents who attended and the swimming club for their support.
The swimming club’s focus now shifts to the All-Juniors Selections on February 5 in Yarrawonga and the Ovens & Murray District Championships to be held on February 11 and 12 in Albury.
