The 13 year-old is just three years into his swimming but is already making waves in the sport.
Showing his promise in the pool with his spectacular efforts, Luca entered in 10 races and brought home nine medals.
He also broke two of the 13 year boys championship records - in the 50m and 100m breastroke events - and broke his own Deniliquin club records in these events and in the 200m breaststroke.
Dad Rohan Caniglia said Luca’s success is not only testament to his dedication, but to the guidance and support he gets from the Deniliquin Swim Club.
“Luca’s been swimming for three years now; he’s just got into it.
“He absolutely loves it and the Deni Swim Club is fantastic.
“They’ve done a great job training him up in three years.”
Having competed extremely well at Temora, Luca’s attention now turns to higher levels of competition.
Luca is heading to the country championships in Sydney in two weeks, to represent Deniliquin at the famed Sydney Olympic Pools.
He will return two weeks later for the Speedo sprint championship finals.
And Rohan thinks nationals will not be far off for the superfish.
“The youngest age of nationals competition is 14 years old, and there’s lots of kids competing for the nationals times.
“In one event Luca is four hundredths of a second off of nationals times.”
Rohan predicts there may be a few more trips to Sydney for swimming before the year is over, but he said it would be worth it.
“Luca is up for it,” he said.
“All up we’re looking at three or four trips to Sydney this year.
“He’s got a natural talent for it, which definitely it doesn’t come from me,” he joked.
