In round three of the Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club’s twilight competition on Wednesday Mitre 10 won the battle of the two undefeated teams.
Led by Pip Metcalfe and John Henderson, Mitre 10 beat Peppin Planners 15 sets to 10.
It may have been a case of if only for Peppin Planners, as they won nine of the sets in rounds one and three but were run off the courts in the middle round, losing nine sets to one.
Andrew Ritchie and Jack McGrillen were three set winners for Mitre 10.
The match between Legal Eagles and Deniliquin Newsagency was closer, with the Newsagency winning 14 sets and 116 games to Legal Eagles’ 12 sets and 109 games.
Each team had two winners of their three sets - Max Ferguson and Adrian Dunmore for Eagles and Meg Shanbhag and Isabella Gow for Deniliquin Newsagency.
Five sets were decided by tie-break, with Deniliquin Newsagency winning three.
So, a close result.
In tomorrow’s match-ups, Jon Gatacre will face off against Steve Lowry, while Donna McCluskey and Hayley Denny will match up against Lucy Horne and Miranda Rose in the ladies.
