A grade came up against an experienced Yarrawonga lineup.
After a promising start, a slow 2nd quarter put us 13 goals down leading into half time.
The girls pushed in the second half, winning the 3rd quarter and matching Yarrawonga score in the 4th.
The incredible defensive pressure from Em Lavis, Mik Trethowan, Soph Morey, Auds Hogan and Ange DeMamiel gave us plenty of opportunity to peg back the score.
Getting within 7 goals in the last quarter.
We just couldn’t maintain consistency and convert when it mattered.
Very proud of the team’s effort against 2nd on the ladder, it’s showing very promising signs to come!
Awards
Essential Beauty: Emily Lavis - caused chaos in the defensive end, disrupting the attack end with multiple intercepts, deflections and rebounds.
Canteen: Ange DeMamiel was strong in the C, running all day. Was patient in attack and brought a great intensity in defence.
Players Player: Em Lavis & Mik Trethowan - Mik was at her usual best, taking intercepts left and right and ss always provided great support in attack.
B Grade
Corowa Rutherglen 40 def Yarrawonga 33
After a strong first quarter start, our B grade managed to take a four goal lead against the well-oiled Yarrawonga line up.
The Yarrawonga team changed their game plan completely and had us readjusting to their press style game from the second quarter.
Our composure under pressure and the combination of patience and trust within our connection across court had us extend our lead at the second and third quarter breaks.
Yarrawonga surged and challenged us at times, but we combatted their efforts with consistent pressure on their possession all the way down the court and persistent positive team energy grinding away to the final whistle.
A rewarding 7 goal win this week, which sends us to the top of the ladder by percentage. The next few games will be vital for us to maintain top spot.
Awards
Club 1: Courtney Haigh who was consistent, adaptable and picked up heaps of ball in our last line of defense.
Docs: Imogen Taylor who was a key play maker, keeping the composure, change of pace and connection in attack as well as high intensity defending the ball down court.
Canteen: Kiara Corkett who played her 250th O&M game, providing drive in the attack end and feeding our goalers with trust and patience.
C Grade
Corowa Rutherglen 42 def Yarrawonga 41
A thrilling one-goal win for C Grade, defeating Yarrawonga 42–41 in a physical and hard-fought contest.
The girls showed great composure against an experienced Yarrawonga side, working tirelessly for all four quarters and never backing down from the intensity of the game.
There were some beautiful passages of play throughout the match, with the team’s hard work at training clearly shining through on court.
Strong connections through the midcourt and patience in attack allowed Corowa Rutherglen to maintain control in crucial moments and finish strongly in the final term.
Awards
Club 1: Bree Forrest was brilliant in Goal Defence, taking feedback on board and implementing it immediately. Her work rate and defensive pressure were phenomenal from start to finish.
Club 2: Addy Corbett stood tall in a highly physical defensive game, holding her own under pressure. She shot beautifully and played with confidence all game, keeping her composure in important moments.
Club 3: Leah Keating played an outstanding game across multiple positions, providing constant guidance and communication on court. Her ability to create important turnovers at key moments helped keep the team in front throughout the contest.
U17s
Corowa Rutherglen 27 def by Yarrawonga 48
Despite the result, there were plenty of positive moments for our 17s against Yarrawonga on the weekend.
We showed some fantastic passages of netball, great conversion through the court and kept building the intensity as much as we could.
Credit to Yarrawonga who were the much stronger side on the day.
Awards
Club 1: Dekoda Smith - An outstanding performance in defence. Dekoda’s pressure, ability to read the play and relentless effort all game was exceptional.
Club 2: Stella Johnson - Another terrific performance in the defensive circle. Stella worked hard all day and continually created pressure for the opposition attackers.
Club 3: Liv McKie - Returning from injury, Liv was solid all day in goals and provided a real presence for us in the attacking end. Great to see her back out there.
U15s
Corowa Rutherglen 28 def by Yarrawonga 44
Despite the loss to Yarrawonga this week, the Corowa Rutherglen Under 15s showed tremendous determination and resilience throughout the match.
Their defensive pressure was a standout, with relentless defensive efforts across the court creating turnovers and contesting every ball.
The team never gave up, continuing to fight hard until the final whistle.
Strong teamwork and persistence were highlights of the game.
Bella Huggins took home the sports power award with her essential movement in the circle, netting 7 goals.
Zahli DeMamiel took home the Chocolate factory award, with her defensive pressure creating turn over opportunities.
Harriet Way was awarded the canteen award for her swift movement in the midcourt.
