Mulwala: Jack Sutherland 4, Dylan Robinson 3, Adam Rouel 2, Jackson Gash 2, Matthew Gorman 1, Thomas Wilson 1.
Best: Barooga: William Clarke, Cameron Johnston, Daniel Johnston, Thomas Mcneill, Samuel Macheda, Jack Charlton.
Mulwala: Jackson Gash, Matthew Gorman, Lewis Taylor, Jamie Smith, Dylan McNamara, Lachlan Rouel.
The annual Anzac Day round at Barooga is always a time to reflect on the bravery and courage shown by those who fought for all the things we love today and on Saturday Barooga once again displayed great thoughtfulness in their approach to the before the game ceremonies.
Mulwala thank them for their work they do towards this, enabling the Lions to stand side by side with them. Unfortunately for Barooga the Mulwala boys took to the field with that Anzac spirit and very quickly through some good work from Seany Johns, Matty and Gashy through the middle and finishing off from Jack and Robbo up forward had goals on the board before Barooga could blink. Rooster and Jimmy were holding the backline up and Mulwala were moving the ball around the open spaces of the Barooga ground with precise kicking setting up many more goalscoring opportunities.
The game tightened up after quarter time and the contests became tougher but the Mulwala boys were up for the challenge.
Sean Johns and Rooster continued to repel the ball from the half back and Dizza showed numerous courageous acts backing into packs that only fueled the Mulwala team to keep pressing forward. The courage was personified when Ads and Buttsy, only having eyes for the footy took each other out in a head clash but both running off the ground with claret running them down.
When Jett got into the goalkicking act later in the game it was all but over and a great win to the team.
Matty Gorman was named the Anzac Medalist in another great performance.
Reserves
Barooga 4.8.32 defeated by Mulwala 14.11.95.
The Reserves were quite a few short this week again but were lucky to be welcoming back Beau Clarke through the seconds who along with Beaso were giving some heightened options in the forward line.
The midfield were on fire early with Joey, Tanner, Flynn and Andy proving far too quick and just as strong as their Barooga counterparts.
Josh and Dillon having already played Thirds were getting plenty of the ball and even finding themselves hitting the scoreboard.
The umpire wasn’t doing Beaso any favors and he was quick to take the free kick in front of goals after some hard work by Jack McDermott.
Henry and Seb stood tall alongside Coach Orr in the backline all day and the midfield continued to dominate as their fitness allowed them to run out the game better than their opponents coming away with another convincing win.
Goals: Nathan Beasley 3, Beau Clarke 2, Josh Eder 2, Lachlan Wood 2, Joseph Bland 1, Josh Ednie 1, Flynn Fletcher 1, Tanner Nyholm 1, Daniel Hoskings 1.
Best: Tanner Nyholm, Joseph Bland, Flynn Fletcher, Andrew Miller, Beau Clarke, Joshua Hammond.
Thirds
Barooga 10.3.63 defeated Mulwala 6.9.45.
After a strong win the week before the Thirds continued to impress Coach House in the early stages of the game with some great work by Jett, Josh and Dillon and strong contested work in the forward line by Jye was allowing them to score as fluently as their Barooga opponents.
A couple of goals down early in the 2nd quarter but the whole team lifted and went into half-time with a slender lead.
Xav and Michael were having great games down back and Jaxon Wheeler was hard at the contest all day but the constant flow of Barooga attacks was overwhelming them.
Ollie, Van and Zach coming up from the fourths contributed well but in the end Barooga were just a bit too strong.
A great team effort and the boys should continue to be proud of the way they are going about their footy.
Goals: Van Kreeck 3, Jye Brennan 2, Jett Peters 1.
Best: Jaxen Wheeler, Harry Barker, Player, Riley Mitchell, Dillon Kirchen.
Fourths
Barooga 0.0.0 defeated by Mulwala 25.25.175.
The Fourths started the day with Barooga being short on numbers and just as short in height. Great sportsmanship by 3 Mulwala boys each half going to play for Barooga allowed the game to go forward and Mulwala’s forward half was where the ball was all game.
In a sometimes scrappy contest that resembled more of an under 8’s game where there was 36 players in half the ground, the ball very rarely got back past the centre of the ground.
A constant stream of goals all day by Mulwala saw them come away with a percentage boosting 25 goal win.
A great opportunity for all the kids to get their hands on some footy but difficult to work on any strategy for Coach Kreeck moving forward.
This week Mulwala are home against Echuca United in what should be a great day of footy and netball and then at the rooms for the games night which has been a hit with the kids and childish at heart in the past.
‘Getta Pizza This’ will be catering so get down and be amongst the Pride of Lions.
