It was a tight first final of the year, with sixth placed Tungamah taking on seventh placed Picola.
After a heartbreaking loss earlier in the season down at Picola, the Tungamah Seniors knew it wasn’t going to be easy, and the match certainly lived up to the hype.
Last week, the Bears had two runners on the field, after the previous week’s solo runner earned a red card for being a little too enthusiastic.
Clearly one runner just isn’t enough to get the messages through safely.
The game was close all day, but by three-quarter time, the Senior Bears had nudged ahead by 25 points.
The final quarter was a nail-biter, as the Seniors only managed a single point for the quarter, but somehow held on to win by seven points.
Safe to say, the tension was real, the nerves were tested, and a few hearts might need minor repairs.
A huge shout-out to Ned McKeown, who kicked his 100th goal for the season.
The scribe wrote, previously known as “The Big Red Shed,” he might now be “The New and Slimmer Gooba” as he continues to dominate up forward and is now a legend at the club.
The win earns the Senior Bears a well-deserved week off thanks to the long finals series. Next up, the side will face the loser of match between Katamatite and Katandra, at home. It’s going to be tough, but if Tungamah bring the same intensity, teamwork, and grit, finals footy the Bears for the taking.
Fourths
Tungamah 5.8: 38 def Katamatite 1.3: 9
The Fourths faced off against Katamatite in the finals on Sunday.
Having encountered Katamatite only two weeks prior, the Bears felt confident in believing they had a solid grasp of their opponents' strategies.
However, Katamatite came out with renewed energy and intensity, proving that finals football is a different ball game.
Despite the initial pressure, the Bears rallied in the third quarter, showcasing their resilience and teamwork.
Their effort paid off as they pulled ahead, ultimately securing a well-deserved victory. This win not only highlights their determination but also sets the stage to continue their finals journey.
Overall, it was a hard-fought match that demonstrated the team's growth and ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most.
Goals: T. Lawrence 3, P. Poll, R. Kelly.

A Grade
Tungamah 39 def by Dookie 49
A strong start was needed in the A Grade Bear’s elimination final against Dookie at Tocumwal on Sunday.
From the first whistle, it was goal for goal, and the Bears trailed by only one goal at quarter time.
A focused debrief during the break saw the team reset and, with more patience and composure push ahead to take a two-goal lead into half time.
Dookie came out firing in the second half, lifting the intensity and opening up a 10-goal lead early in the third.
But the Bears weren’t done yet.
Through grit and determination, the side fought back and narrowed the gap to just five goals at the final break.
Unfortunately, the last 15 minutes of A Grade’s season didn’t go to plan.
Despite the Bears best efforts, Dookie pulled away and secured the win by 10 goals.
A huge thank you to the Tungamah bench, crew, and supporters for being there with A Grade every step of the way.

Under 17s
Tungamah 44 def Katandra 39
It was always going to be tough against Katandra, especially after both sides had drawn earlier in the season
The Under 17s knew they had to bring four quarters of solid netball into the final.
A tight first quarter saw the Under 17s lead by a goal heading into the second quarter.
Wise words and direction from the coaches at the quarter time huddle, resulted in the scoreboard gradually push out in the Bears favour.
The side demonstrated great plays through the midcourt, while maintaining control and flow.
Defensive pressure remained relentless, as it disrupted Katandra’s rhythm.
Most notably, the Under 17s showed composure all over the court and were able to convert goals, making the most of attacking possessions and capitalizing on turnovers. A well-rounded performance that reflected determination and strong teamwork.
