Myrtleford 36 def by Yarrawonga 65
As the fog cleared on a fresh winter's day in Myrtleford, Yarrawonga’s A Grade team were determined to build on their momentum from the previous week's match against Corowa.
Yarrawonga came out of the blocks firing, quickly getting out to a 19-8 goal lead at quarter time.
Myrtleford picked up the intensity in the second quarter and shot very accurately to get back in the game, however the Pigeons were still able to push the lead to 15 goals at half time.
Grace Stillard, who has stepped up from B grade in the last couple of weeks, combined effortlessly with Hannah Symes in the defence circle.
Tilly Kennedy’s work rate in the midcourt, along with Laura Davis and Laura Irvine generated multiple midcourt turnovers that were then swift delivered to the attacking end.
Maddy Allan and Bridget Cassar shared the shooting load, generating a final score of 65-36.
Best: Tilly Kennedy and Grace Stillard.
B Grade
Myrtleford 18 def by Yarrawonga 61
What a game from B Grade team this week.
The girls put on a dominant performance, securing a strong 60–18 win over Myrtleford. The Pigeons were thrilled to welcome back the ever-reliable Anna, fresh from her European travels.
She slotted straight back in, teaming up seamlessly with Kira and Jac in defence to read the play beautifully and take some crucial intercepts.
The midcourt trio of Alisha, Emma, and Kylie who worked tirelessly all game, driving the ball forward and linking up brilliantly with the attack.
Unfortunately, B Grade lost Ellie early in the first quarter to injury, but the incredible C Grade girls stepped up when it mattered most.
Tilly and Grace handled the goal shooter duties with composure, combining well with Dee to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
The Pigeons are so lucky to have such great depth across all grades, every player steps up when needed, and that strength is what carries B Grade through the season.
Best: Delaynee Moon and Jacqui Oswald.
C Grade
Myrtleford 45 def Yarrawonga 35
The C Grade girls played a tough match this week, ultimately going down by 10 goals to Myrtleford.
It was a rough and physical game from the outset, but C Grade held their ground and showed great resilience throughout all four quarters.
Despite the challenging conditions, there were strong passages of play, solid defensive efforts, and moments of excellent teamwork.
The team will regroup and look to bounce back stronger next week.
Best: Gemma Muldoon and Bridgit Hamilton.
Under 17s
Myrtleford 34 def by Yarrawonga 36
The Pigeons were determined to get the win over the Myrtleford Saints.
With the Saints sitting in fourth on the ladder, the Under 17’s knew it would be a hard slog.
The game started in blistering conditions with Yarrawonga fighting for every ball and capitalising well.
Some great intercepts and defensive pressure were applied by the relentless defence end consisting of Maisie, Kendall and Sienna.
At training, the girls have been working on high intensity defensive pressure all around the court.
This was put into play in all areas last weekend, especially in the midcourt with Miley, Jedda, Stevie, Lily and Emily sticking tight on their players.
This resulted in many turnovers and forced errors by the Saints.
The shooting end, consisting of Sophie, Leni and Kendall rotated well and converted off the defensive turnovers.
In the last quarter, the saints came marching in, clawing their way back to a two-point ball game.
The girls remained composed and trusted in each other, narrowly managing to get the four points.
A great win by the young pigeons who are eager to take on the Wodonga Bulldogs next week.
Best: Sophie Coghill and Jedda Driscoll
Under 15s
Myrtleford 62 def Yarrawonga 16
A tough game for the Under 15s this weekend against Myrtleford.
The score line did not reflect how well the girls played throughout the game.
The defensive end worked hard to turn the ball over and the girls transitioned the ball beautifully down the court.
The attacking end worked hard, fed the ball well and remained patient throughout the game.
Unfortunately, the Under 15s went down in the end, but they kept pushing all the way through.
Best: Sienna Clarkson and Emily Liddell.
