An undermanned A grade team managed to pull off a convincing 30 goal win against a young Wang Rovers side on Saturday.
Young guns Georgie Hemphill, Kaleisha Pell and Chloe Wheaton got their chance to play this week in the absence of Laura, Maddie and Em.
The first quarter was a tight tussle with only a few goals between the two sides.
Kaleisha started in GA with Sarah Senini and with Sarah’s experience the two combined seamlessly in the ring together.
Georgie began in wing defence and combined beautifully with the ever-consistent Laura Ryan in centre, Yarra then started to edge away in the second quarter.
The score began to blow out in the third quarter as the Pigeons were able to turn the ball over and consolidate on the scoreboard.
Tilly Kennedy was strong in WA and as always fed beautifully into the goalers.
The 4th quarter saw Chloe come on to make her A grade debut and she looked very comfortable in the ring with Han Symes who played another terrific game taking plenty of intercepts.
It was exciting to see the young girls getting some game time and the future is definitely looking bright!

This week’s game resulted in a nice win for Yarra scoring 55 to Wangaratta Rovers 40.
In the goal ring Eliana, Sharni and Mylah blended really well together to create space and get the ball in the ring for another score.
Throughout the midcourt Jackie and Cait were always on their feet making really strong leads to drive the ball into the shooters.
In the defence end Annalise, Morgan, Amy and Chloe worked tirelessly to stop the opposition from being in shooting range and were always having a crack at any rebound opportunities.
Special mention to Mylah and Morgan who stepped up from the u17s team and absolutely nailed it.

On the first game of winter the girls came out strong scoring the first 2 goals of the game. From there on, the quarter was almost goal for goal.
Kirby came out firing, taking intercepts and turning the ball over providing goalers H and Briar with additional opportunities.
Alicia was dynamite with her look away passes into the goal circle.
Yarra went into the half time break with the lead.
Macey in her 50th game came on into defence in the 3rd quarter and continued on the defensive pressure.
Paige was on point with her accuracy and combined with Alicia in the goals to have the girls in front by their biggest margin of the day at 3/4 time.
Elle put pressure on in WD for the whole game and Alanna's GK defensive pressure made it hard for the Rovers goalers.
Caity and Sophie fed the ball into Briar and Paige in the last quarter and the girls took away a 44 to 34 win.

The sun came out for the u17 girls as they took on Wang Rovers.
While struggling to get a head start in the first quarter, they fought back in the second and third with two short goalers Mikyah and Mylah dominating the attacking end, sinking every scoring opportunity.
The Rovers took off in the last quarter, even with the consistent defensive pressure by Morgs and Steph.
Best: Mylah Kennedy, Mia Wheaton.

The Under 15 Pigeons took on the Wangaratta Rovers at their home ground this week. The girls started strong and showed great improvement in many areas of their game.
The defence in Kendall, Caitlin and Liv was strong with several great turnovers. They were then able to feed the ball out of the defence into the midcourt and down to the attacking end where Leni, Ruby and Ella were able to make a mark on the scoreboard.
Milla, Charlotte and Chloe were impressive demonstrating that they are starting to read the play and making great space to assist getting the ball down the court.
They were overrun in the final quarter where the Rovers girls took the opportunity to make a strong impact on the scoreboard.
As always the Pigeons coaches, Lauren and Sarah reminded the girls to continue to celebrate the successes these young girls have made as a team.
They were impressed with hands over pressure, passing and the girls ability to take the ball with two hands.
The King’s Birthday Weekend will see the girls take on a strong Wodonga Bulldogs team.
It will be a difficult contest but no doubt the girls will be reminded to focus on their game plan.
Awards: Player’s Player – Chloe Liddell and Coaches Award – Kendall Connell.
