Record Easter Entries Highlight Busy Period for Yarrawonga Tennis

Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club is gearing up for another bumper Easter Tournament, with record participation confirming its status as Australia’s premier country tennis event.
Played across 57 courts over four days, the tournament has already attracted around 1,400 players following early access being granted to club members and returning competitors from 2025.
Such has been the demand that official entries for the 2026 Easter Tournament will not open, with organisers expecting interest to remain extremely high.
As in previous years, the waiting list for this iconic event is expected to approach 500 players.
All Stars Classic Delivers High-Quality Tennis
The annual All Stars Classic Tournament was held recently, marking the seventh year of the event.
Run by Tennis Victoria, the three-day tournament provided plenty of competitive action and featured many of the state’s top open-age and junior players.
The event continues to be highly regarded on the tournament circuit, with full results to be published next week.
Juniors Earn Australian Open Experience
Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club juniors have been invited to attend Australian Open Hot Shots Day on Thursday, January 22.
The excursion includes bus transport to Melbourne, participation in organised activities and reserved seating at John Cain Arena to watch live matches.
The day traditionally features Australians competing in second-round matches, creating an electric atmosphere.
Members have been contacted, and a limited number of seats remain available on the bus for this unique opportunity.
Local Talent Shines at Wayne Arthurs Cup
Young local player Ernie Buerckner recently represented the North East region at the prestigious Wayne Arthurs Cup, held at Kooyong.
The tournament showcases Victoria’s best under-10 players.
Buerckner joined teammates Maddison Green, Spece Reynolds and Maisie Fitzpatrick from nearby towns.
The team finished ninth overall out of 14 regions, with Ernie delivering strong performances throughout and proudly representing the club.
Tuesday Men’s Tennis Returns
Tuesday Men’s Tennis resumed last week following the festive break, with ideal conditions welcoming players back to the courts.
While some showed signs of off-season practice, others took time to find form, before the evening concluded with the traditional pizza and refreshments.
Edberg defeated Laver 4–2 in the headline clash, with Nev Page named best on court.
Nadal edged Federer on games after a 3–3 set split, with Damian Cook continuing his excellent form.
Other results saw Sampras defeat Borg 4–2 despite Borg winning more games, Djokovic beat McEnroe 4–2, Lendl overcame Agassi 4–2, and Becker recorded a dominant 6–0 win over Connors.
The current ladder sees Edberg leading on 42 points, followed by Becker (37) and Laver (35).
Junior Tennis Set to Resume
Saturday Junior Tennis is currently paused for the Christmas break, with sessions resuming on January 31.
Premier League competition will again feature among older juniors, while Hot Shots and coaching groups continue to focus on skill development.
Places remain available across all programs, with new players encouraged to join.
Wilby and District Competition Update
The Wilby and District Tennis Association continues to offer social tennis across the region.
After Round 9, the ladder is led by Telford (57) and Tungamah (51), followed by Savernake (42), Burramine (36), Wilby (17) and Mulwala (13).
Telford and Tungamah appear strong contenders heading towards finals.
The competition resumes on Friday, January 30.
Thursday Ladies and Goulburn Murray Tennis
Thursday Ladies Tennis enjoyed a successful first season, with the next six-week competition beginning on February 5.
Entries are taken individually, allowing teams to be balanced across abilities.

Yarrawonga Division 3 returned to action with a tough away match against Kyabram, who claimed an 8–1 win.
Yarrawonga’s sole success came through Thomas Lawrence and Noel Thomas in doubles.
Ellen Bruce made an impressive first appearance for the season.
Yarrawonga maintains strong ties with Numurkah Lawn Tennis Club, with local players featuring in Division 1 and 2 sides.
Numurkah Division 1 is chasing a fifth consecutive premiership and currently sits third on the ladder.
Social ‘Rock Up and Play’ Sessions
The club continues to offer social aggregate tennis, with ladies playing Tuesdays from 9.00am and men on Wednesdays from 9.00am.
