Whilst many dads were on hand to don aprons and produce some delicious dinner options, Mums of the Under 11s and 13s took to the netball court for some spirited games and drills with their daughters.
Thanks to Kaitlyn Ackerly and Brooke McDougall who coordinated the activities on the court.
This has now become a much-anticipated event, bringing out the competitive spirit of the Mums and certainly plenty of laughter and fun for all involved.
Thank you to all of the supportive and generous sponsors who donated goods and services for the raffle: Club Mulwala, Bella Femme Ness, Showcase Jewellers, Free as a Bird, KOBL Studio, Bridge of Health, Untangled Wigs, Mint Boutique, Floral Harvest, Blacksmith, Fresh Décor, Cellarbrations, Brick Lane, Foodworks Mulwala, The Publican’s Daughter and Arbonne.
A Grade
Rennie 41 defeated by Strathmerton 57.
It was a disappointing day out for the Rennie A Grade on the “Back to Rennie” celebration weekend.
The Hoppers got off to a slow start and some unforced errors over the court allowed Strathmerton to take an early lead.
There were still patches of excellent play and the defensive pressure was better in the second half. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to pull back the lead.
There are certainly lots of positive signs going into next week, with a couple of players still to return.
Awards: Burke’s Hotel – Alisha O’Dwyer, Yarrawonga Hotel – Sharni Dickins, Bundalong Tavern – Stacey Davis and Bridge of Health – Brylee McCarty.
B Grade
Rennie 28 defeated Strathmerton 26.
Windy conditions at Rennie made it slightly tricky for netball playing. The first half was a sluggish start for the girls.
The Hoppers needed to regroup and refocus on working not so much harder but smarter with the ball.
The effort the team put into the game is a credit to them. Touch and go in the second half saw a tight finish in the last minutes of the game but the team held onto the lead and winning the game.
Still building as a team there are so many positives to take away from each game and only played the 4 games altogether.
Awards: Yarrawonga Hotel - Jill Haack, Balance Spin Studio - Kayla Oughton and Belle Pelle - Paula Mifka.
C Grade
Rennie 33 defeated Strathmerton 22.
The girls were on fire this week with everyone receiving at least 2 interceptions.
The first half was an outstanding performance by the girls giving them a healthy lead at half time.
The girls put the pressure on in defence, which was matched well with the amazing attackers making forward drives.
The wind made it difficult for the shooters but with confidence and support from everyone they put the shots up. Great work this week girls.
Awards: Yarrawonga Hotel – Haylea Blick, Lake Mulwala Bakery – Kacey Kindred, Hardluck Coffee Co – Laura Nunn and The Publican’s Daughter – Kayla Stevenson.
C Reserve
Rennie 35 defeated Strathmerton 21.
Another good game by the girls. The windy day meant the shooters had to work a little harder for goals and passes had to be shorter and sharper but the girls all adjusted well.
Everyone on court is putting in and the evidence is in the rewards. Still plenty of things to improve on and work towards as a team.
Awards: Lake Mulwala Hotel - Tegan Comber, The Terminus Hotel - Emily Stanley and Lake Mulwala Bakery - Jasmine Burns.
17 & Under
Rennie 20 defeated by Strathmerton 51.
The girls had another tough game this week. The Hoppers still had some great passages of play in both attack and defence.
Let’s keep working hard and backing each other.
Awards: One Zach – Alainah Bye, Lake Mulwala Bakery – Kaitlin Percy and Thyme for Coffee – Sophie James.
15 & Under
Rennie 34 defeated Strathmerton 12.
The first half of the game was quite congested although the girls had a convincing lead. In the second half they worked hard to create some space on the court, which enabled them to come away with a good win. Good job girls.
Awards: Lake Mulwala Bakery – Sophie O’Dwyer, Judd’s Mensland Visor – Charli Head, Mulwala Pharmacy – Brooke Knight, and Redback waste – Mia Doherty.
13 & Under
Rennie 19 defeated Strathmerton 9.
The ladder going into this round, gave both teams the chance of a win.
In cold and windy conditions, the Hoppers struggled in the first quarter to adjust to height differences all over the court, with some silly passes and miscommunication.
The coach Brooke, gave some good advice and tips at quarter time which the girls took in and played some great netball, remembering that a mistake was only a mistake if they didn’t try and fix it.
With scores relatively even going into the last quarter, Rennie’s defenders and mid court both turned over plenty of ball and didn’t give Strathmerton an easy shot at goal.
The shooters rotated perfectly, and goals were very accurate from any distance, giving the Hoppers a 10 goal win. Great stuff girls.
Awards: Lake Mulwala Bakery - Violet Elliott, Judd’s Mensland Visor - Georgia Phillips, Yarrawonga Fish’n’Chips -Makenzie Clark and McDonalds- Laynee Rhodes.
11 & Under
The Rennie minis had a great day on the weekend. With only nine players from the usual 13, meant the girls had a lot more court time.
The team improved so much with their passing and catching and had the team focus of looking down the court, which they did with ease.
Being devoted Hopperettes, the girls spent the day interacting with the “Back to Rennie” families and selling merchandise. Top job girls.
Awards: RRR Canteen Voucher - Sophie Coghill, Courtyard Café - Iris Elliott and McDonald’s - Chelsie Cooper.
With the Annual Rennie Ball coming up on Saturday, May 25, make sure you have your ticket.
A great night is ensured at Club Mulwala. Please contact Lisa Starr for ticket sales and information.
