Rochester and Lockington-Bamawm United continued to struggle against the leading Echuca sides, both going down in action at Echuca Tennis Club on Saturday.
Echuca 1 took down Rochester 9-4, while Echuca 2 got the best of LBU 10-3.
The Echuca 1-Rochester fixture began with a strong singles performance from Echuca, Jack Byrne and Nick Bush both picking up wins.
Rochester had a better go of it in the men’s doubles, as Harry Crilly and Brad Major pulled back one set 8-6, but Echuca still took the section two sets to one.
The women’s doubles went to a similar script, Karen Taylor and Cadence Major earning a lone win for Rochy, 8-2, but Echuca grabbing the other three sets.
Roxanne Dicketts teamed up with Celine Bush and Charlotta Groenewald partnered Kate Murray to share Echuca’s best results, winning the doubles fixtures 8-3.
Rochester’s best effort was in the mixed doubles, the sides splitting them two each.
Most of the sets were close, with Rochester’s Nash Hocking and Kirstie Gebbie scoring the biggest win 8-3.
Echuca 2 vs LBU
LBU’s hopes of a first win of the season were boosted when Harrison Condliffe and Darryl Squires both grabbed singles wins.
However, things swung back in Echuca’s favour over in the other sections.
The men’s doubles was claimed two sets to one, Josh Boyd and Phil Higgins leading the way with an 8-2 result, while Squires and Grant Humbert earned the win for LBU 8-4.
Echuca swept through all four women’s doubles, claiming three of them 8-1, to truly establish ascendancy, before repeating the feat in a prefect mixed doubles section, again grabbing all four sets.
In the penultimate round of action this Saturday, Rochester will host LBU, while the two Echuca sides will face off, with the winner likely to end the season on top of the ladder.
